I find this freezer to work as well as any I've ever used, including White MountainI like the bronze and stainless for the longevity But they didn't carry that throughAs with most manufactured things these days, my (2qt)freezer has parts designed intentionally to fail While the crank and housing are stainless and bronze, the gears are aluminum or, worse, zincBoth are less noble, electrically, than either stainless or bronze, and by a large marginHaving aluminum or zinc in close proximity with bronze in particular is creating a batteryIn the presence of an electrolyte, such as the salt brine used in making ice cream, the gears will fizz away to failure, and you will have to spend another $on gears, which will fail again and again over the long term I wash my unit out with fresh water after use and there's still lots of white powder forming on the lowest gear after two dozen uses or so I will not cooperate with this scam I will take these gears I have to the local art forge and have them make these gears in bronze, as they should have been in the first place Then I can pass this off to my nieces with a clear mind You'd think at $they would do this right

I find this freezer to work as well as any I've ever used, including White Mountain. I like the bronze and stainless for the longevity. But they didn't carry that through. As with most manufactured things these days, my (2qt)freezer has parts designed intentionally to fail. While the crank and housing are stainless and bronze, the gears are aluminum or, worse, zinc. Both are less noble, electrically, than either stainless or bronze, and by a large margin. Having aluminum or zinc in close proximity with bronze in particular is creating a battery. In the presence of an electrolyte, such as the salt brine used in making ice cream, the gears will fizz away to failure, and you will have to spend another $50 on gears, which will fail again and again over the long term. I wash my unit out with fresh water after use and there's still lots of white powder forming on the lowest gear after two dozen uses or so. I will not cooperate with this scam. I will take these gears I have to the local art forge and have them make these gears in bronze, as they should have been in the first place. Then I can pass this off to my nieces with a clear mind. You'd think at $259 they would do this right.
