Countryside Fuel

Review: I ordered home fuel oil after seeing an ad for 25$ off for new customers with no stipulations of mentioning an ad or presenting a coupon. I did not receive the discount even after 2 calls speaking with two representatives. The second call I made to the business was after speaking with a state consumer agent with the Attorney General.Desired Settlement: The advertising policy should change to state mentioning the ad is required to get the discount. The current ad reads that new customers just receive a discount--which was my understanding.

The customer called on 5-1-13 and requested a delivery. Countryside scheduled the delivery and performed the delivery on 5-3-13. On 5-8-13 the customer called our office stating that he just saw our ad in a local paper and wanted our advertised new customer discount applied to his account as a credit toward a future delivery. We explained to the customer that this discount needs to be applied to their first delivery. The customer expressed disappointment that he hadn't seen the ad before he received his first delivery. He asked if we could just make an exception for him. We explained to the customer that we couldn't make an exception in this case because they hadn't made the switch because of seeing the advertisement. Had they mentioned that they had seen the advertisement before but forgot to mention the discount when placing the order, we may have granted the exception. We have done that in prior cases. The customer seemed satisfied with our explanation. The customer did mention that he had spoken to the Attorney General's office and that he could file a complaint but did not plan to do so even though he disagreed with our decision in this case.

The account given by Countryside regarding our interaction is almost entirely false. I would have been satisfied with "Sorry, no discount, but we will make future ads accurate and not entirely misleading"
