To whom it may concern: I believe our guest misunderstood the new service charge law It is still not illegal to enforce service charge in restaurants We have tried our best to explain to our guest that it is legal for applying service charge, but our guest didn't want to pay for the fee To my knowledge, there are many restaurants that are doing the same fee with even a higher percentage such as 20% or 22% Some restaurants even charge service fee on special menu like San Diego Restaurant Week menu regardless of the party size We have our service fee written on our menu and we always let our guests know about the fee prior to ordering I apologize for any misunderstanding this may bringSincerely, [redacted] **
