Craig L Graybar Furniture Works Ltd. Reviews (1)

Review: My husband and I had Graybar repair and refinish several family antiques. Here is a list of the problems we have with the service provided:

1. Kitchen table - the finish bubbled and cracked along the join of the 2 halves. The top layer of wood was sanded away too far. When we put a trivet on the spot, it broke through the wood and we now have a whole in the top of the table. The table top is not usable at all. This is an antique from my grandmother. Why would anyone put a water soluble stain on a KITCHEN table?

2. 150 yr old oak sideboard. The sideboard does not have legs, but sits directly on the floor. We requested that our furniture be stained with a penetrating stain. Instead they painted a water soluble finish on the sideboard. I guess we aren't suppose to wash the floor in the dining room, because the finish on the sideboard is washing off near the floor.

3. Cedar chest - Graybar painted a finish on it also. The finish is easily chipped. If anything other that soft Tshirts are set on the chest the paint chips off. Again we had asked for a stain, not paint. Man;y of the paint chips are on the sides and edges of the chest.

4. Mahogany library table - prior to the refinishing, we had protected the top of this table with an exact fit custom beveled glass top. Imagine how surprised we were when the beveled glass top didn't fit the refinished table. The table had gotten bigger by 1/2 inch each direction! We think that they took all of our solid mahogany and kept it and then cut a replacement top of other wood and painted it to match the frame.

5. Marquetry sofa side table - the lose top veneer was not repaired. The manufacturer identification stamped on the underside of the table was sanded off.Desired Settlement: We would like to have the furniture properly refinished with a penetrating stain that is not water soluble and wash off . We do not trust this company to repair or refinish our furniture. We would like a refund equal to the cost of having a different furniture restoration company solve the problems that Graybar caused.

Response:

We would appreciate an opportunity to view the furniture that we restored for the [redacted]s over 11 years ago.Preferably with a Revdex.com representative present if at all possible. We do not use a "water soluble stain", the stain is finish over with a clear lacquer. Our records show we used a severe service grade lacquer, not any paint other than a green accent for details on the spindles and finial.I also do not show that the customer tried to contact us regarding any of the problems stated in the complaint. We would like to resolve this problem but feel we should be given an opportunity to view the furniture.
