Craven Community College Reviews (1)

Craven community 11st . Craven college wrongfully charged me even after taking my financial aid. They did not explain tuition cost, class drops.Recently I applied to go back to college at [redacted]. After 30 days they told me Craven community college had not sent my transcripts. I went to Cravens website field out the transcript form and mailed it in with my check for fees. A month later still nothing from them. All the while my school has need put on hold, I'm still waiting because ccc refuses to release them. In 2007 I was a single mother raising 3 children. I attended ccc trying to better myself. I was told by financial aid office to apply for student loans and pell. With losing my home, job I fell into a slump. I didn't do well in class anymore. I was told I could drop classes and be fine because my financial aid paid for them. I ended up consolidatin my student loans to try and rebuild. I still am paying. Craven never told me I owed anything. In fact I was told I could return to school as soon as I felt ready. Now I'm limited as far as my education goes. I'm in debt from loans and am struggling to get back in school. Finally I called Cravens business office spoke to a young girl who was rude to me. She at first couldn't find me. When she did she said I owed 271.34. I asked why she said I don't know I guess from 2007 classes. I asked for a bill and told her that was impossible. She said yep, so you owe and we are not sending transcript until you do. I called again three days in a row and received the same lack luster attitude. Desired SettlementI am furious at the treatment I received. The lies, push offs and total unethical manner in which they conduct business. I would like an apology. I want my transcripts mailed to Apu and liberty university as I requested. I want this off my credit reports.Business Response I would like to apologize for any misunderstanding and miscommunication regarding the student's debt. Our records indicate the student received Title IV aid for the 2006 Fall term. If a student withdraws from class for any reason before 60% of the term our institution is required to return Title IV funds back to the Department of Education. If the tuition and fees were paid by Title IV funds you will owe the institution for the outstanding balance left. After a certain timeframe the debit is written off and a hold is placed on the account. Writing off the debt does not release the student from their obligation to pay. The Student Accounts Office received the check and was unable to receipt the check for a transcript and it was returned to the student with a letter explaining why we were unable to process her transcript request. We received a hand written letter from the student wanting more information regarding her debt. On September 21, 2016 the Student Accounts Office mailed a letter to the student informing her of the debt and stating the college's policy to restrict registration and the release of transcripts until the debt is satisfied. Our records also show on October 13, 2015 an email was sent to the student by the Accounting Assistant confirming the debt and the reason for the debt. We received an email response from the student on October 14, 2015 with an understanding of the debt and a request to setup a payment plan for the amount due. On October 15, 2015 The Student Accounts responded back to the student regarding the payment plan arrangement. Should the student have additional questions she can give a us a call at [redacted] Consumer Response Craven community college contacted me and as requested, explained the debt. I was wrong about the debt. Customer service could use some help. Thank you for the information, help. I was told they do not accept payment plans but I can pay on it in time. Final Consumer Response
