We are grieved to hear that the transfer of belongings was distressing to Mrs. [redacted]. However, we are compelled to point out that the family was fore-warned that receiving such items could be emotionally difficult. Mrs. [redacted] also employed the use of our services a second time, despite her...

claim of mistreatment during her first experience with us.The following is a detailed account of activities associated with the complaint regarding her Husband. The deceased was pronounced dead in a hospital on 12/03/2017 from his injuries after hanging himself in his home on 11/27/2017 The deceased was picked up from the SD Medical Examiner on 12/08/2017 and cremated 4 days later on 12/12/2017 after completing all the State required paper work.Prior to doing the cremation we were asked by the deceased's wife if we had any of his personal belongings. It is not our policy to pick up personal belongings however a new employee of the transport company picked up the belongings from the Medical Examiner against our policy and without our knowledge. When we looked for belongings in the body bag that the deceased arrived in we found a green bag. It is our policy that when we remove belongings from a body bag we then put them in a biohazard bag to warn any one hanhandling the bag that the items enclosed may have been in contact with decomposition material and or other pathogens. We never received a request or any items from the wife to be cremated with her husband and it is not our policy to require a family to inventory items that they would like created with the deceased. We only say that no explosive items are allowed. When the wife and daughter came to our office On 12/11/2017 they were advised that the belongings they requested we look for, had been in the deceased's body bag and that they may not want to see or touch them. We gave the biohazard bag containing a green bag to the wife and she insisted that her daughter, against our recommendation, inventory the contents of the green bag on our employees desk. The bag contained a shell, red picture book, paper note, plastic bag with 3 clumps af hair, and a plastic Seattle Seahawks bracelet,The wife and daughter then left on 12/11/17 without any negative comments regarding our services. The inventory of belongings was witnessed by two other staff members. The wife paid $695 for our services and $105 for death certificates. She received both the cremains and the death certificates which was what she contracted for. If this was such a disturbing situation why would you come back and use our services again?Response to [redacted]'s second complaint regarding her father. The cremains were given to the Father's life partner under Kimberly [redacted]'s Instruction, with the understanding that the cremains would be divided privately by the family. Since that time, there has unfortunately been an apparent dispute between the life partner and Mrs. [redacted], which has prevented this private exchange from moving forward. We have offered our assistance to Mrs. [redacted], at no additional cost, to recover the cremains from the life partner. The following is a detailed account of activities associated with the complaint regarding her Father. The deceased died on 12/23/2017 at Palomar Medical Center and was brought into our care on 12/26/2017. The hospital documents listed his "life partner" as the next of kin. We contacted the life partner and were informed that she and the deceased had been together for 27 years were now engaged thou not married. We informed the life partner that under California law even a life partner of 27 years has no authority to make final arrangements for the deceased. We were then told that the deceased has a daughter. We contacted the daughter that lives in El Cajon and she completed the required forms by fax and never came to our office with regard to her father. We filed the disposition permit showing that the cremains were to go to the residence of the daughter. The life partner paid for all of our services. We were later told by the daughter after filing the disposition permit that she only wanted a small portion of the cremains and that the life partner could pick up the cremains and that they would remove Some cremains for the daughter themselves. The life partner lives in San Marcos, The life partner picked up the remains on 01/03/18. Their apparently has been some falling out between the life Partner and the daughter as the daughter claims that she has not received a portion of the cremalns. We have attempted to get the cremains back from the life partner and we have agreed to absorb the cost of the permit necessary if we split the cremains. The life partner has not returned with the cremains as of this date and the daughter has had profanity laced conversations with our staff. We are prepared to make the split of the cremains at no charge whenever the cremains are brought to our office. We even offered to pickup the cremains if returning them was to inconvenient for the life partner.
