Croms Automotive & Transmissions Reviews (1)

I took my vehicle to Crom's Automotive for repair. My check engine light was on (lean fuel code)and I needed my muffler replaced. They took my vehicle to Patriot Automotive (also owned by Mr. Crom) to conduct the repairs. They conducted a fuel system service which did not fix the engine problem and installed a new muffler. I called Mr. Crom on the evening that I picked up the truck to tell him that the check engine light had come right back on, and that there was a little rattle under the truck. He told me to bring the truck back in. The next morning, I took the truck to Crom's Automotive and saw Mr. Crom personally. He spoke with me and told me that he could not help me. I had to take the truck back to Patriots. I took the truck back, afterwhich they gave me a second failed inspection (didn't fix the problem with the engine), gave me a waiver form for registration purposes, and the truck still had a little rattle underneath - it was little and the truck is almost 13 years old and has been sitting a while, so I didn't think much of it - I am a nurse, not a mechanic...Two days later the weld they made while attaching my muffler cut through the drive shaft and caused it to come apart while I was driving in I-40, 2 hours from home (on a weekend when Patriot's was closed). I was stranded on the highway, two hours from my home, so I had the vehicle towed to a local shop who fixed the problem and stated that it was obvious that the improper muffler installation had caused the drive shaft to be cut in two. This shop assured me that the shop which made the installation should, no doubt, pay for the damages - they couldn't imagine it any other way. They documented the situation with photographs and notes, and verbalized a willingness to support that claim on my behalf if necessary. When this situation was presented to Mr. Crom, he refused to cover the damages, stating that I should not have driven the truck to [redacted] in the first place, because of the rattle.Product_Or_Service: truck repairAccount_Number: invoice [redacted]Desired SettlementI would like Mr. Crom to accept responsibility for the damage that was caused by the error made by his employee and cover the damage that was by that error financially. I would also like to be refunded for the muffler work that had to be completely redone because of his employee's error.Business Response The customer's vehicle required a state inspection, which is not provided by Crom Transmission, so it was referred to Patriot Automotive. NO repairs were completed at Crom Transmission. The customer brought the vehicle to Patriot Automotive for a new muffler, a recommended fuel system service, and an inspection. After the service and repairs were completed, an inspection was conducted and the vehicle failed for emissions only. The customer returned to Patriot Automotive with the vehicle two days later for a re-inspection. The vehicle failed again for emissions, enabling the customer to get a waiver from the DMV. The customer's spouse brought the vehicle back to Patriot Automotive again the following day with the waiver. The vehicle was pulled into the inspection bay, mileage was checked and the waiver information was entered into the system. It has come to our attention that during the interim days, the customer repeatedly contacted Crom Transmission with concerns about the vehicle. The customer was strongly advised by Mr. Crom to return to Patriot Automotive, so that we could complete the simple 15 minute repair which would have resolved the issue. However, despite returning to Patriot Automotive for the second inspection and for the waiver, the customer never informed us of any noise complaint, depriving us of the opportunity to fix the issue. The customer instead knowingly continued to operate the vehicle, fully aware that there was a problem. This negligence on the customer's part contributed greatly to the resulting damage to the vehicle, and so we cannot accept full responsibility for the resulting cost. Because of her contribution to the damage, we found it more than generous to offer compensation for the original work, to be applied to the cost of the new repair.
