accounting, consulting, and technology firms in the United States. Our firm provides unclaimed property compliance services to many business clients - we do not provide services to individuals. Our business clients hire us to assist in the preparation of annual unclaimed property filings for reporting jurisdictions where our clients hold unclaimed property and are required by law to remit such property where possible. As part of our unclaimed property compliance services, we facilitate statutory due diligence letter mailings as a last attempt to reunite the rightful owner with their funds prior to reporting.
Ms. [redacted] 's letter apparently relates to the services we were providing to such a client. On February 22, 2017, pursuant to requirements set forth by the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, Crowe mailed Ms. [redacted] a written due diligence letter in an effort to notify her of unclaimed funds owed to her by our client, a medical center. Ms. [redacted] was not Crowe's client — the medical center was Crowe's client.
Our office received a response from Ms. [redacted] dated March 1, 2017, indicating a request for a replacement check. Ms. [redacted] 's request for a replacement check was communicated to the medical center in April, along with all other requests received within the 30-day response period provided on the due diligence letter. Following communication of the request, the medical center assumes responsibility for validating claims and issuing the requested funds.
Ms. [redacted] first contacted our office on May 23, 2017 to inquire about the status of her replacement check (through our toll-free, public hotline number listed on the letter). We returned Ms. [redacted] 's call on the same day, leaving her a voicemail message as she did not answer. We informed her in the voicemail that the medical center was in the process of reviewing the claim and that our client would be reissuing a check within 90-120 days if applicable.
Ms. [redacted] subsequently contacted our office several times in August and September to inquire about the status of her check. We informed Ms. [redacted] that we would contact our client to obtain a status on the check and that we would follow up with her with any updates. We left Ms. [redacted] a final voicemal message on September 21, 2017 to inform her that a new check had been prepared and that she should expect to receive it within the next two weeks. We have been informed by our client that they mailed Ms. [redacted] a check in the amount of $1,168.19 on September 22, 2017.
