Review: My wife and I engaged Crown Ridge Condominium Rentals/Apartments in our search for an apartment in the Modesto, CA area. In our first interaction with [redacted] on April 11th 2015 she seemed very pleasant and eager to get us into one of their apartment homes. My wife spoke to her primarily and stressed that we needed a downstairs 2 bedroom apartment as quickly as possible since I was starting a new job with the City of Modesto on May 5th. [redacted] indicated there was a 2 bedroom downstairs apartment available early to mid May which we were interested in. She indicated there was another apartment available May 8th which we decided to go with instead since it was closer to my start date at my new job. My wife asked [redacted] multiple times throughout the conversation whether or not this 2nd apartment was downstairs and she said it was. We applied for the apartment using their online application process provided by On-Site which involved a $30 charge per household member over 18. Once we were approved for the apartment we mailed a $100 check to hold the apartment per [redacted]'s request. I visited the complex on May 7th for a last-minute check of the apartment since we were not able to prior to that date. Upon visiting the unit I discovered that the apartment was upstairs which was unacceptable and not what we were promised. We cancelled the process and told the management that we needed the $100 check back as well as the $60 for the 2 application charges. [redacted] informed us that it was non-refundable after 72 hours and the application charges were non-refundable. This is unacceptable since we did not change our minds on the apartment, we applied under false pretenses based on what we were told by [redacted]. Her first reaction was to look at the emails sent between us which did not indicate we needed a downstairs, apparently we needed to record our conversation since requesting a downstairs apartment in person was insufficient. The supervisor [redacted](?) backed up [redacted]'s decision and did nothing to resolve their error.Desired Settlement: At the very least I need a refund of $160 for the application charges and the hold we placed on the apartment we were told was a downstairs but was not. I find it despicable that they would in essence call my wife and I liars and immediately try to shift the blame to us despite their error. Since then I have been commuting 184 miles per day from Fresno to Modesto until our new apartment is available mid-June, unnecessarily wasting time and money.
