Received business response via email on 2/23/15:
There are numerous issues that Ms*** raisesI handle the claims or her missing items but the rest is handled by other departmentsI am efforting a consolidated response for you
From the claims perspective Ms*** signed several documents stating that she received ALL of her belongings including all of her jewelry which we strongly advise against shipping both verbally and in writingMs*** fails to mention this in her complaint and she doesn't mention the fact that she put her expensive jewelry in with her "costume" jewelry in one container yet somehow all of her costume pieces did arrive but none of her expensive pieces did? So, a crew or some portion of the crew would have had to separate the expensive from costume jewelry in full view of other crew members and Ms*** who was supervising both the packing and unpackingThe fact is we have no idea what may have happened to the items after Ms*** signed for them but her story isn't credible from the standpoint that Ms*** freely admits that crew members and she herself were going from room to room and she did not see anything suspicious at packing or unpackingAnd, it needs to be noted that Ms*** was strongly encouraged to file a police report which she repeatedly declined to do, another fact that seems to have slipped her memory

HelloI will start from the beginningI was not trying to save money, as we were not paying for this move personallyI did not tell the men to repack the boxesTHEY started combining items and placing them in new boxes, along with the garage items that needed to be packed, per the contract (mirrors, pictures, tools)I did ask them to tape the open boxesIt was their choice to repack, and they should know to ask the customer and explain the additional costI am not too sure how much these young men understood about the cost/contractI would have thought they would have called their leader to ask such questionsI am the customer
Whether I packed my jewelry and gifts, or not, it does not matterThey were trusted, and paid, to do a jobI flew from*** ** for this time frame and could not take items back with me on the plane
We also paid for insuranceThey have that money and should reimburse us for the missing itemsThe estimate is $We will be happy to settle for half of that amount
All boxes have long been unpackedThese items were not delivered with the move
I was told by *** that clothes in the dressers were not to be taken outWhy did the men take them out and pack them?
This company, twice, came back and tried to up the quote they gave us, for various reasonsI am assuming that is how they get their businessQuote lower than other companies, then attempt to collect more
The signed papers are irrelevantThe driver did not want to stay longer and told me soI questioned him about how I knew all my stuff was there, when all boxes had not been openedHe reassured me it was all there, not to worryHad we insisted it all be checked off, they would have been here until the next morning, assuming we checked to be sure every item was deliveredSmall items were not numbered so the only way to know what arrived was to unpack over a few days, and then remember what you had at the previous locationI did not open the bag with christmas clothes until a few weeks before ChristmasThat is when I found out one of the granddaughters outfits was missingIt was in the bag, in the guest room dresser, when they packedDid it walk off by itself? The homemade wooden advent box should have been with the other items on the buffetIt did not arrive at our new location eitherSome of the rings were in boxes in our dressers and some in my jewelry boxThey were not delivered either
I had requested a meeting with all of the men involved when I was in *** after the moveI was told by the HR man that he would pass *** request onI never heard from anyone
Long story short; they were paid for a jobThey failedItems were not delivered, and these items did not walk away by themselvesThe company was paid for insuranceI suggest they meet us half way to settle this case
