PLEASE, BEWARE: In Octof 2014, we brought our Malibu ski boat to Crystal Lake Marine to be refurbished Our discussion centered around stages of refurbishing: engine work, upholstery work and fiberglass work with payment by check for each stage as it was completed The boat was to be completed by April 1, 2015, in fact, it was not completed until June 6, 2015, after countless broken promises of completion by the owner, Dave Issues with work on the boat engine: CLM installed an electronic ignition/new distributor When boat was put in the water, the low oil light went on We opened the hood to find oil leaking from the base of the distributor due to improper installation(Distributor clamp was not torqued down) This could have resulted in a fire This also caused timing problems due to the loose distributor CLM supposedly checked the timing with a timing light Issues with fiberglass work: CLM started their process of removing the boat from the trailer, sanding the hull, filling imperfections and sanding again to prepare for gel coat Once the gel coat was dry, they sanded and polished the sides and put the boat back on the trailer without finishing the bottom and leaving it sandpaper rough Dave actually stated that a rough bottom on a fiberglass boat was preferable! -Really?!?! During several meetings, it was explained to us that matching the following colors was the most difficult: Grey, White, Teal, Pink, Red or Orange He really did say this! Issues with upholstery and replacement of plywood seat templates and flooring: It was said by Dave, all wood templates were reconstructed This was false It was truthfully, of templates that were replaced A x section of floor was replaced We were charged for x sheets of plywood when no more than were used, at most(21' boat!) Upholstery work was satisfactory On June 6, 2015, after much frustration and enduring endless lies and angry, profane outbursts from Dave, we took our boat home and finished the remaining work that CLM was to do, so that we could get our long awaited (7+ months) boat in the water before summer was over Issues with payment: Although all our previous payments were by check with no issue, Dave demanded final payment in cash (over $5,000) before releasing our Malibu He actually stated that when he has strongly dissatisfied customers, he has problems with them stopping payment on checks and credit cards -So, apparently, we weren't the only dissatisfied customer I'm still in shock that I could pay someone to treat me as I was treated! Certainly, we expect Dave to deny any or all of our claims For your own protection, please believe this is a very honest review -Sincerely, Glenn W

Contact Name and Title: *** ***, President
Contact Phone: XXX-XXX-XXXX
Contact Email: ***@crystallakemarine.com
I will be short and stay to the facts
I did ask *** *** to bring the boat in so we could determine if it was at
the fault of any work we had doneHe refused to allow us that liberty
Here are the facts:
*** *** stated that a Mercury dealer informed him that only a Mercury 3/primer bulb assembly would work on his engineHe stated the dealer told him the 5/assembly we put on his boat, replacing the existing 5/assemble originally on his boat, was only rated for up to HPThe facts of the matter are that Mercury does not manufacture a 3/assemblyAfter we informed him this was incorrect he then changed his story and stated the primer bulb was defective in which I again requested he bring the boat in and allow us to test it which he again refused
This followed by plus phone calls over a day period from the *** familyDuring these calls it became clear that they were both heavily intoxicated by the slurred words and belligerent behavior, which was accompanied by many threats of violence from his son
After I had had enough of this behavior I told them IF they brought the primer bulb assembly back undamaged and specifically told them not cut when removing it I would refund their purchase price in full which they agreed to these termsThey returned the primer bulb assembly and had clearly cut off several inches of it and confirmed this fact by their own admission violating the terms of our agreement
We made a new agreement that same day that I would test the primer bulb assembly and if it was good they would not receive a refund since by cutting it they made it impossible for me to return it to the manufacturer if it was in fact defectiveIn this exchange *** *** ** stormed into my office making threats of violence towards meWhen I asked him to leave my place of business he asked me how I planned on getting him out as he would kick me ***, I called and had him removedThis call is easily provenThe primer bulb assembly tested completely holding pressure for days straight
I later found that they put a 5/bulb assembly on it after insisting a Mercury dealer told them that would not workThis all goes to prove lack of credibility on their behalf in verbal exchanges from the *** ***My mechanic went on site during these issues times free and discovered that *** had changed carburetor screw set adjustments instead of bringing it in to have a qualified mechanic look at itThis could have been avoided had the Orists shown a willingness to cooperate
In conclusion due to the fact the *** damaged the part beyond return to manufacture and violated the terms of the agreement I have decided that I will refund 50% of their purchase price of $under the agreement that they agree this and all future claims are closed permanently and no further claims or visits will happenThey are no longer allowed on my site after all the violent threats
I will mail the check to them
Initial Consumer Rebuttal /* (3000, 7, 2014/07/02) */
(The consumer indicated he/she DID NOT accept the response from the business.)
to whom it may concern,
I refuse to get into the he said she said about my problem with Crystal Lake Marina.Mr *** to like to deal in drama
I have never in the past used Crystal Lake Marina.my experience so far has been a nightmare
on X X XXXX after finding Crystal Lake Marina on a Google searchand conversing with *** on the phone I decided to bring in my boat because of the factthat my mercury motor was hard to start and hard to troll at slow speed it ran very rough stalled at times
*** went over a list of possibilities and said bring it in and we will diagnose and fix the problem, he boasted that his mechanic was the best mercury mechanic around, he would be able to figure out what was wrong and get my boat running so that I would be able to use my boat for fishing and trolling with easy starting and a good trolling speed
Upon bringing in my boat *** brought into the office *** is mercury mechanic *** a shirred me that when he was done my boat would run and perform as it was intendedUpon picking up my boat, invoice number 525had been performedI paid that invoice of $assuming my boat would be running and performing
after using my boat to try to go fishing it performed less than in fact it left me floating in the middle of Crystal Lake I was lucky Crystal Lake is a small lake and I was able to get out of my boat in full it along the shoreline by the shallows for about a half mile to my house
I of course called *** who told me *** would stop by after work *** was a no show *** set up and was a no show for several times back and forth back and forth blah blah blah blah I said earlier I really didn't want to get into the horrible drama of it all *** finally showed up and adjusted are carbs at that time it was it was found that he wanted to replace fuel line assembly I oked that work to be done and brought the boat in to be fixed this was invoice $
The next day I was told the boat was ready
when I went to pick up the boat I noticed my prop had one of the blades ground down to one half the size***'s explanation was I was doing you a favor don't worry it won't hurt anythingThis is the strangest thing I ever heard lucky I had a spare prob and *** agreed to order a replacement prob at no charge to me
I paid invoice number $upon picking up my boat
After launching my boat back on Crystal Lake the boat started to run fine at first but as time went on it got rougher and rougher just like the motor used to run it was like nothing had been done after many many tries after starting and stopping the engine.it lost Prime and was hard to start just like beforeMy diagnosis was that we were taking on air through the fuel line assembly somewhere
please keep in mind this was Memorial Day Week and I knew that *** was very busy but he wanted me to bring in the boat but he was not sure when he was going to be able to work on itI thought this was unacceptable and I wanted my boat for fishing over the Memorial Day weekendI talked to *** and presented the following verbal contract
*** if I replace the fuel line assembly by myself and it fixes my problem with the boat will you refund my money for invoice number After some back-and-forth bickering about whether or not it was the problem *** agreed if I replaced the fuel line assembly and it fixes my problem he would refund my money
I replaced the fuel line assembly and it completely fixed my problem so now all I want is for *** to oblige by our agreement
I understand Mr *** is offering to give me back $I am not at all satisfied with this offer I want Mr *** to do what he agreed and give me back my money for invoice number for $
Final Business Response /* (4000, 9, 2014/07/03) */
First of all I never agreed to give the Orists back that much I agreed to refund the cost of the part if it was returned in original condition and specifically not damaged and or cutI don't think this was much of a request
If they purchased merchandise at a store like *** and tried to return the product damaged and or not all there there would be no refund at all
I bought them a new prop proving I was attempting to make them happy
My time is far too valuable to spend another moment on this ridiculous farce
I will send them a check for the primer bulb in the amount of $as I agreed even though they did not fulfill their end of the deal by damaging the product
I ask that they never step foot on out lot again and understand that once I send this check this and or any other warranty concerns are null and void period
I will have the check sent out on Monday July 7th
good day!

PLEASE, BEWARE: In Oct. of 2014, we brought our 1991 Malibu ski boat to Crystal Lake Marine to be refurbished. Our discussion centered around 3 stages of refurbishing: engine work, upholstery work and fiberglass work with payment by check for each stage as it was completed.

The boat was to be completed by April 1, 2015, in fact, it was not completed until June 6, 2015, after countless broken promises of completion by the owner, Dave.

Issues with work on the boat engine: CLM installed an electronic ignition/new distributor. When boat was put in the water, the low oil light went on. We opened the hood to find oil leaking from the base of the distributor due to improper installation. (Distributor clamp was not torqued down). This could have resulted in a fire. This also caused timing problems due to the loose distributor. CLM supposedly checked the timing with a timing light.

Issues with fiberglass work: CLM started their process of removing the boat from the trailer, sanding the hull, filling imperfections and sanding again to prepare for gel coat. Once the gel coat was dry, they sanded and polished the sides and put the boat back on the trailer without finishing the bottom and leaving it sandpaper rough. Dave actually stated that a rough bottom on a fiberglass boat was preferable! -Really?!?!

During several meetings, it was explained to us that matching the following colors was the most difficult: Grey, White, Teal, Pink, Red or Orange. He really did say this!

Issues with upholstery and replacement of plywood seat templates and flooring: It was said by Dave, all wood templates were reconstructed. This was false. It was truthfully, 6 of 14 templates that were replaced. A 4 x 4 section of floor was replaced. We were charged for 7 4 x 8 sheets of plywood when no more than 3 were used, at most. (21' boat!) Upholstery work was satisfactory.

On June 6, 2015, after much frustration and enduring endless lies and angry, profane outbursts from Dave, we took our boat home and finished the remaining work that CLM was to do, so that we could get our long awaited (7+ months) boat in the water before summer was over.

Issues with payment: Although all our previous payments were by check with no issue, Dave demanded final payment in cash (over $5,000) before releasing our Malibu. He actually stated that when he has strongly dissatisfied customers, he has problems with them stopping payment on checks and credit cards. -So, apparently, we weren't the only dissatisfied customer. I'm still in shock that I could pay someone to treat me as I was treated!

Certainly, we expect Dave to deny any or all of our claims. For your own protection, please believe this is a very honest review. -Sincerely, Glenn W.
