Initial Business Response / [redacted] (1000, 5, 2015/12/29) */ Contact Name and Title: [redacted] CFO Contact Phone: [redacted] Contact Email: [redacted] @cuivre.com Consumer was connected on 12/9/on our prepaid program at this location after we worked with her to obtain assistance from agencies and after we agreed to set up a deferred payment arrangement with her for a prior unpaid balance Unfortunately, payments were not made to maintain a credit balance and the account was disconnected for nonpayment on 12/15/On 12/17/15, service personnel were at the location and found meter tampering - aluminum can strips had been placed in lugs to bypass the meter According to the Missouri Revised Statutes 569.090.1, "A person commits the crime of tampering in the second degree if he: ...(4) tampers with, or causes to be tampered with, any meter or other property of an electric, gas, steam, or water utility, the effect of which tampering is either: (a) To prevent the proper measuring of electric, gas, steam or water service, or (b) To permit the diversion of any electric, gas, steam or water service." Furthermore, states "In any prosecution under subdivision (4) of subsection 1, proof that a meter or any other property of a utility has been tampered with, and the person or persons accused received the use or direct benefit of the electric, gas, steam or water service, with one or more of the effects described in subdivision (4) of subsection 1, shall be sufficient to support an inference which the trial court may submit to the trier of fact, from which the trier of fact may conclude that there has been a violation of such subdivision by the person or persons who use or receive the direct benefit of the electric, gas, steam or water service." Meter tampering is both unsafe and illegalCuivre River Electric does not take it lightlyThe meter at the consumer's location was tampered with, the consumer received the benefit and is responsible whether she was the one to do the actual tampering or notThe service will be restored at the location for the consumer once she appears in the office to sign forms acknowledging that there was tampering which is both illegal and unsafe, and pays all associated fees
