Curley Contracting, Inc. Reviews (1)

Review: Hired Curley contracting for bathroom renovation. Job began on 12/04/2014 after a few false start dates. Final step of job was wallpapering bathroom. Wallpaper began to bubble & separate at seam in several places within days. (Payment for entire job had been made, specially wallpaper person) owner of wallpaper business, Scott K[redacted], did make 2 attempts to redo sections in question but to no avail. After many unanswered communications to Mr. C[redacted], I researched wallpaper prep through the place I purchased from & strongly believe the prep

wasn't done properly (not by Mr. K[redacted]) the last repair by Scott was in May, which was not successful. I am still waiting for Mr. C[redacted] to find a "solution". My husband & I paid in full, in good faith, long ago. We have been VERY patient. Michael C[redacted] has not contacted us once. Many conversations with his secretary who says he is trying to come up with a "solution"Desired Settlement: Wallpaper job to be redone, properly.. Either by Curley Contracting or reimbursement from Curley contracting for the original cost of the job + cost for new wallpaper we will need to re-order.

As we will then have to find another wallpaper person to correct & finish our bathroom!

Response:

The initial job was a very successful full renovation to the [redacted]'s bathroom. Among many components, included in the renovation was the installation of a new tub and countertop, installation of cement board, insulation and vapor barrier to the walls around THE SHOWER WALLS, intricately custom designed mosaic tile, new trim and custom shower doors. The ceiling and trim was primed and painted and the walls were primed and sized with R35 (a highly recommended material for wallpaper installation). The R35 was purchased an [redacted], a very reputable store in the [redacted] community. At the end of the job, the only thing left was to wallpaper the walls with four rolls of wallpaper. As I do, I subcontract my wallcovering installation out. I then hired Seamless Wallpaper, owned by Scott K[redacted], a skilled graduate of the [redacted] to install (as we have done so many times before with no issues). Sometime after the job was completed, Mrs. [redacted] called and said that some seams seem to be lifting. We (Scott) went over and repaired seams and sometime after we receved another call that other seams were lifting. We (Scott) then went back again to repair. We received a call stating that due to repairs, Mrs. [redacted] wanted a section chage. So then one new double roll was ordered by Mrs. [redacted] which was charged to Curley Contrctings account, which I paid with no hesitation. We (Scott) then used the replacement paper for this third repair. We received another call from Mrs. [redacted] that there were still problems with the seams and Mrs. [redacted] mentioned that she had spoke to someone that said the R35 sizing was not a good product and was most likely the problem, which I disagree with and have always used without any problem. As an expert in home renovations, including much knowledge in wallpaper installation it may be possible that there may be a problem with lack of insulation in the walls (not including the shower, which was completed by us during the renovation) and with this new shower, and teenagers in the house, there could be an over abundance of steam and dampness, which could contribute to this problem. Also wallpaper is a material that is applied to a wall with many variables, edges of paper can be seen depending on the paper and the room it is installed in. Expectations should be relative to the material used. The [redacted]s have stated many times how happy they are with the overall job. I have tried to satisfy Mrs. [redacted] with repeated attempts on the seams and as it is now, I believe she is saying there are still some seams that have a small puckering. The new paper we have installed, I believe is holding. If the [redacted]'s purchase the wallcovering that is needed at this point, I would remove, re-prime and install at no cost to them.

Response:

I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID [redacted], and find that this resolution is satisfactory to me;although the terms of resolution need to be more specific. Will this include removal of ALL wallpaper with re-priming, re-sizing, re-gluing and re-wallpapering?
