Company refused to honor their warranty for repairs of leaking roof that have been ongoing for 2.5 years.
We came home from being away for the weekend of Aug 17 & 18th, to find a new large water spot on my roof and water spots on the floor in our bathroom.

I stopped by ***'s on the morning of August 19th to tell them that my roof was still leaking and I asked the owner, Mi,e *** to please call me. No response from Mike on Monday.

I called them on Tuesday and asked for a Mike. They told me that he wasn't in but eventually told me they had scheduled an appointment for Wednesday to look at my roof.

I asked my son to work from home on Wed so that he could let then into our home. I received a call /voice mail from ***'s asking me to call them back. I called and got connected to Ben. He asked me about my problem which I describe to him. He then began to lecture me and tell me that I didn't have a leaking roof and over the course of many minutes explain to me that they were finished honoring their warranty.

Desired Outcome

Fix my roof and prevent it from leaking

Curry's Roofing Response • Jan 10, 2020

New roof was completed on Jan 13th, 2018. At that time we completed the roof he had several complaints and finally paid us on Jan 19th, 2018 but withheld $680 of the final payment. No leaks were reported to Curry's by Mr. until December of 2018. On December 18, 2018 we sent a supervisor out and he went inside the home with Mr. and saw several stains on the ceiling. We sent a repair man out the next day to repair some areas Bo thought the leaks (if new) may be coming from. Our repair man also changed some cosmetic areas of fascia customer wanted replaced and he said he would then take care of the inside staining himself. On January 2, 2019 Mr. stated that the staining was bigger than before and we tried to explain to him that no rain had occured between time of repairs and that day so maybe the stains and wet spots were coming from A/C ducts. On January 4, 2019 Mr. came into our office very upset and being very rude wanting to someone to come out that day to look at leaks. He was raising his voice with the receptionist who was trying to explain that neither Mike or Ben were were at the office. He also squealed his tires leaving the office so quickly and aggressively. Ben called him after he left and explained to him on the phone that all of our guys were already out for the day and it would be the following day. He was irate saying that was not acceptable. He stated he had mold growing inside his home based on findings from a moisture meter. Ben then told him he should hire a mold inspector at this point if he was worried about mold growing inside his home. As of today's date we have never seen such report if one exists. On January 7, 2019 Mike and Ben went to the house themselves and there was no one home but a map was left on door showing areas so they went on the roof and looked at the areas and found no new damage or areas of concern. We then sent another repair man the next day on January 8, 2019 who still found no areas to tear out and redo and no current leaks but he again resealed the areas just in case. At this time Mr. was again told that the stains needed to be painted with kilz to verify whether or not they were growing or to show if a leak happens. Again we were called on March 28, 2019 and also on May 13th, 2019 that roof was leaking and again no current leaks were found. No further contact was made by Mr. until Aug 20, 2019 when he came to the office and said he had leaks again. August 21st Ben tried calling Mr. several times and Mr. texted him back "I will call you later". After a few hours went by Ben called him again and left a message telling him he wanted to come by and check the leaks. The next day Mr. returned Ben's phone call and let him know how busy he is and kept throwing up attorneys and Ben let him know if that is the route he wants to take then we are done talking and would wait on the call from his attorney. Mr. then said the attorneys would be the last resort he really just wanted to resolve the issue. He then started being verbally aggressive with Ben and Ben then informed him that we have been out so many times and have never found a real issue with the roof. Ben then asked him if the stains at this point were any larger and Mr. said they were not. Ben asked if there was any water protruding into house or any wet spots in ceiling at this point and he said no. Ben told him that it didnt sound like there were any current issues and told him we were ready to collect final payment. Mr. stated that he would not be making the final payment and at that point Ben let him know that without final roof payment his warranty would be voided and due to all the many times he had came into our office being verbally agressive and spinning out his tires that he was no longer welcome to come to our office and harass our girls working in there. We have since had a few roofing companies contact us stating Mr. asked them to check roof for leaks / issues and they were also unable to find any. Curry's Roofing has responded every time we were contacted and have made an honest effort to find the cause of his complaints but at this point feel as though we are out of options due to the fact that we still have not even been paid for the original roof we did almost 2 years ago.

Roofers provided a quote, then charged $1,995 extra. Debris was not cleaned up, some work substandard, & some damage to the ceiling of carport.
On 5/25/18, I sent Curry's Roofing a copy of their quote with my signature and I called in the 10% deposit of $540. I called in Sept to give them my final color choice for the shingles and there was no further communication until 9/24/18 when "Rachel" left a message stating that "they are finished up with the roof and I wanted to see if you're are going to make the final payment by cash or check." The next morning "Lynn" called from there about payment again. I paid the remainder of what they said was left on the original agreement - $4,940. However, even then I overpaid because the remaining amount was $4,865.

The total amount is vastly higher than I anticipated. I am very upset by both the HUGE cost overrun and the fact that I was not consulted about the extensive overruns. $2,000 cost overrun on a $5,000+ roof is a HUGE discrepancy, ~ a 40% difference. This is especially true on a home that's only worth $30,000. It does not seem reasonable that I would not have been consulted in the decision-making process about how to proceed. If they had consulted me I would have talked with them about a lower cost alternative to the 1"x5" planking, like plywood, could have been used. It clearly should have been discussed with me. I was told by their office that they called but could not reach me. However, there are no missed calls from their company for the day in question (or even the week prior).

I relied upon their expert estimator to evaluate the materials and labor within a reasonable margin. I understand that in roofing there can be areas that cannot be found until the old shingles are removed but the area on the back porch was exposed wood easily visible to anyone. I reasonably assumed that the person doing the estimate (who works for them) is skilled enough to know what to look for so I assumed the work was included in the original quote. I am attaching a photo so you can see how easily visible the area was.

The damage to the carport ceiling was not there prior to the work as they suggest. If that was true, it would have been documented by their crew since numerous other photos were taken and something that egregious would have been noted. The fascia board on the back of the patio was also installed incorrectly; it should have been mitered on each end to match the existing board. There was a missing board on the back of the patio and damaged soffit that was not like that before. Finally, the contract states that they would clean up the debris, but a very large pile of damaged wood and old shingles was left in the back patio for me to remove & discard by myself. When I arrived the back patio door was swinging open so their suggestion that they could not gain access to that area is incorrect. I have submitted photos of these items to them as well as to this complaint. I have had to pay someone else to fix all of the issues mentioned.

Even though I have paid them $5,480, they refuse to pay anything to RoMac Lumber because, as Michael said, "It's against their policy." I received a letter from RoMac warning me against unscrupulous roofers who do not pay subcontractors so this must happen all the time. They are threatening me with liens instead of talking about adjusting the amount.

I have called, I have visited their company in person and sent numerous emails to try to resolve this matter. They've sent me a list of materials but no explanation of the areas in which those materials were used. Am I supposed to take their word that they used over 400 linear feet of wood on a 700 sq ft home? They should provide me with an invoice from the lumber supplier.

I am not even certain if Curry's did the work themselves or if RoMac did, since Curry's letter only states that they supplied "materials" for the job and RoMac's letter states that they supplied "labor and materials" for the job.

They know I'm being treated for cancer because I told them and I also told them that the stress is taking a toll. I really need this resolved please.

Desired Outcome

I would like a detailed invoice for all materials and labor for which I'm being charged. I would like an adjustment to the bill for - the portion of the work that was poorly done, - the debris left behind, and - the damage to the carport ceiling (since I had to hire someone to correct those problems.) - Also, they should adjust their final amount because their estimate should have taken into account the damaged wood that was easily visible (and therefore, reasonably assumed to have been included in the original quote). I would also like them to satisfy RoMac Lumber's request for payment for "labor and materials" (I guess they acted as a subcontractor) and I'd like a release of all liens (if any). I want to have nothing on my credit and no judgement against me.

Curry's Roofing Response • Nov 20, 2018

Prior to any work taking place Mrs. signed a contract stating that any rotten wood to be replaced would be an additional charge. When we were hired to do the work there was a large tarp on roof covering most of the damage. Curry's Roofing never guesstimates the amount of wood needed to be replaced on a roof because typically it is impossible to tell. To be more fair to the customer we only replace what is needed and therefore we never charge for anything not needed. As far as letting her know that wood was being replaced our office did call her several times with no response and finally we left a message stating roof was complete and we needed final payment.
Curry's Roofing has photos of the damaged carport from before we began our work proving that we did not damage the carport. The debris she has mentioned fell down thru the roof while work was being done. Thats why she needed a new roof because the area was a mess from the damage. We would have even sent someone over to help her clean up once access was granted if she had aksed instead she is wanting it taken off the invoice.
Mrs. been given an invoice stating the roof price which she signed for and also it states exactly how much wood was replaced and the type and footage. The customer paid for her roof thru an insurance claim and she was willing to get us the balance of $1995 paid when she believed her insurance company would cover the extra cost. We even went as far as to take our time to send them pics of the damage directly. When the insurance company said they would not cover the wood charges is when Mrs. began stating she would like detailed invoices which we have sent to her several times. Mike Curry the owner of Curry's Roofing has also called and left her 3-4 voicemails to try and discuss final payment and she has yet to return a phone call. Standard procedure is to file an NTO on unpaid balances which we as the contractor and also Ro-mac Lumber as the supplier have done. If balance is not paid by November 25th liens will be filed on the property by both Curry's and Ro-mac. Here is the detailed invoice for the record:
reroof price as per contract $5150
upgrade to peel & stick $255
24' of 3x6 lumber $120
30' of 1x6 lumber $150
360' of 1x5 lumber $1800
Total: $7475
deposit -540
payment -4940
BALANCE DUE : $1995

Release of lien will be given at the time the final payment of $1995 is made and not before. That is what protects us contractors from doing work and putting out our time, labor and material and not being paid for the work.

Curry Roofing's statement that I have not communicated with them is quite simply a lie or at the very least, a gross misrepresentation of the truth. I spoke with them several times by phone. When I got no response to my concerns, I went to their office in October and spoke with Rachel in person. She said that I should email them with photos of the damage I addressed with her. I started sending emails when it became clear I needed a paper trail. I am attaching two emails I sent them in October - one regarding the damage to the carport and the other with numerous issues including the lack of cleanup. You will notice in the emails that another of their assertions is likewise untrue - that at that time I asked for them to lower the payment due in exchange for rectifying those issues. I did not ask for a modified payment amount until I had to hire someone else to do what they FAILED to do (and that they were CONTRACTULLY OBLIGATED TO DO - it's in their contract).

The same is true for their statement that they tried to reach me by phone about the extent of the roof damage and the amount of wood required prior to completing the work. I have my phone records that show the time period in question and they show NO calls from Curry.

I note that there was no mention in their response of the damaged soffit, the missing board, the poorly repaired fascia, or the gaping hole in the carport. All of which I had to pay to have corrected. It is not fair or right that I should pay them the full amount they are demanding when they left behind issues I had to pay someone else to resolve. That's paying TWICE for the same work.

I have also received a letter from a lumber company cautioning me that I should not pay the roofer without a release stating that all subcontractors have been paid.

This complaint has been resolved. We have been paid in full by the customer.

(The consumer indicated he/she DID NOT accept the response from the business.)
It's not exactly accurate. We arrived at a mutually agreed compromise. Other than that, yes, there is no further action needed. Thanks.

Worst exoerience I ever had with a roofer everything they did LEAKS !

This customer hired us to do a job for him - he let us come out and do the work then proceeded to tell us when it came time for final payment that he did not want repair done. So liens have been filed on the property and we will be taking him to small claims court. We had previously completed work for customer and he was extremely happy.

Desired Outcome

We just want the roof fixed, hurricane season is upon us. We are in our 80's - this is nerve-wracking. Every time it rains the water pours out of the bathroom fan/light fixture. Neither of us can get on a ladder to take it down. We did fill out a complaint with the Sheriff's Sr. Services Dept. here in Citrus County. Apparently they didn't have any luck either. I also contacted via email Channel *.

Curry roofing replaced our roof in September 2017.
To date the roof has never been inspected by the permit issuer, City of Crystal River.

I have been advised by the city that Curry roofing has never notified the city that the job had been completed. I have contacted Curry roofing multiple time by phone and have been told each time they would take care of the issue ASAP. I have been to their office twice and have been told, very rudely, that they will "take care of it". I checked with the city today and was told that Curry Roofing has never contacted them and that the permit has expired, requiring a payment of $100 to re-issue.

Desired Outcome

Have Curry Roofing complete the permit closing.

Curry's Roofing Response • Apr 09, 2018

To begin with Mr. did have a final inspection that needed processed on our end. However after asking us to take care of it he proceeded to come into our office and tell our secretary how ugly and fat she was just because she didn't have an answer for him right that second. He also yelled profanitys to her causing her to have to leave work for the rest of the day in tears. At that point we had no interest in helping him expedite his final inspection. A few weeks later I did have an engineer do a final inspection which then was sent to the City of Crystal River and the final was processed. The entire process could have went much quicker and would not have came to this if Mr. wouldn't have talked to a human being working for us like she was a dog. Any man who can speak to a woman like that should be ashamed of himself.
