Curt Manufacturing, Inc. Reviews (10)

Based on the extent of damage described by the customer, he was advised to contact his insurance company and start a claim with CURT. He did not want to get his insurance involved and wanted to have the situation handled as a 3rd party claim. I advised him that a process like that would
take longer than a standard claim and he was okay with that. The claim was assigned to an examiner on 3/23/and she tired making first contact with Mr*** around April 6th. He advised our insurance that his son (***) was actually the one who owned the vehicle and that he'd put the agent in contact with her. He did not supply the agent with a phone number to contact him direct. On April 13th, *** still had not called the agent. On April 16th, she contacted James and was able to obtain a good contact phone number from ***.The matter is now under full investigation by a claims examiner and fire inspector

Revdex.com:
I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID [redacted], and have determined that the CURT statements do not resolve my complaint and are simply an attempt by CURT to pass LIABILITY to others and us as Victims.  As of 5/5/2018 the complaint has yet to be resolved.  The loss of our Ford E-350 Dump Truck has been a financial loss which we will not forgive until we have been compensated for our loss.  The CURT Electronic brake control devise caused a fire that completely destroyed our vehicle.  Furthermore, the investigator hired by CURT was simply another attempt by CURT to pass on the liability.  Secondly, the investigator even stated the fire damage was so extensive that he could make a determination as to what component malfunction in the CURT Brake Controller and our case was perhaps was associated with one of the many suppliers that CURT purchases electronic products from to build and sell their device. We say, regardless of which component in the Curt Electronic Brake Control failed it does not matter as CURT manufacturers the device and their vendor sold and installed the device. We expect and seek full reimbursement for Truck, Tow Charges and the rental expense of a temporary vehicle that we are incurring while this matter is resolved. Furthermore, we are prepared to take this matter to court if necessary and will do if we are not satisfied.  Not a threat simply the truth.  [To assist us in bringing this matter to a close, we would like to know your view on the matter.]

In regards to this complaint and your email asking if I had heard from Curt Manufacturing,1-Yes, I phoned Curt on 9/18 and spoke with a representative who confirmed that the company had changed the design of the product I purchased such that it was different from the photos both featured on the...

packaging and every website selling the product.2-In regards to your question asking if I was satisfied with the response, no I am not.  I don't think it is appropriate to use photos to market a product which do not accurately portray the features of that product.  To say "the design was changed, but I'm not sure why they didn't change the photo" (I'm paraphrasing but this is essentially what the representative told me), is not what I would expect from such a firm.

Review: I bought a hitch from them and the welds were horrible. The bolts never lined up and the installer charged me extra to install the hitch. In Sept I contact CS [redacted] and he promised to see if he could help reimburse me for the inconvenience. It is December, I have contacted him 5 times and they are still trying to "See what they can do." To make it worse Tyler emailed me the Product # for the trailer lights. He said it was a 56201. Well when I called and said it was missing the power cable he said I really needed a 59201. They refused to send the extra part and so I had to pay more as it was more than a kit price. They Lie and they misinform and they do not care, So muck for "buy American."Desired Settlement: Refund my $100 that I had to pay to fix there nistake

Review: I have contacted Aries Automotive on 5 different occasions spanning over 20 days regarding the incorrect part I received in their parts box for my 2008 Jeep Liberty grille guard. I have been told every time I call that "we'll get back to you" and "we'll habe this taken care of today and I'll call you tomorrow." I have been called once to simply tell me that nothing has happened yet. I have not been given any type of customer service and I have still not been helped in getting this taken care of in any type of reasonable timeframe.Desired Settlement: I want the correct parts that were supposed to be in the box I ordered as a birthday present 20 days ago.

Review: I am the current owner of a 2014 Cadillac CTS V-Sport. On March 3, 2016, [redacted] from At Your Door Mobile Hitches installed a Curt hitch model number [redacted] for the cost of $350. The product looked very well built and finished, and [redacted] was courteous, polite and experienced.

The majority of the installation of this product seemed to go well until Shawn went to put the bumper fascia back on the vehicle. He spent about two hours trying to get the bumper on but could not unfortunately get the fascia far enough forward so that it would snap back onto the brackets. He even asked me to come assist in pushing the cover forward while he screwed it in place. After fighting with the bumper fascia, it was unfortunately causing paint damage where the tail lights and bumper fascia met, so I decided to ask him to stop to minimize any further damage. We got the bumper fascia back on with about a 1 centimeter gap on the drivers’ side.

[redacted] offered to discount the installation price, so we settled on a total payment of $300 as I assumed I would simply purchase some touchup paint to repair the scratches on the bumper fascia.

After driving the vehicle for a several weeks, the gap unfortunately increased to about 2 centimeters, and it was obvious that something wasn’t right with the fascia. So I took the vehicle to Lake Pleasant Collision to inquire about getting the bumper fascia back on the vehicle properly. Again, I assumed it would be a simple repair in the hands of an experienced body shop employee.

Lake Pleasant Collision accepted the vehicle on April 13, 2016. I was later informed that day by the manager Todd that the bumper fascia would no longer fit properly on the vehicle due to the Curt hitch. He explained that, because the hitch was nestled in between the vehicle frame and bumper beam, the extra thickness of the steel plate pushed the bumper beam further out. This in turn was pushing on the bumper fascia which was the reason why Shawn was unable to get it reinstalled properly on March 3. He recommended a completely removal of the hitch which was completed on April 13. The product is now sitting in the trunk of the vehicle rather than attached as it is intended to be.

Furthermore, Todd informed me that during Shawn’s attempt to reinstall the bumper fascia on March 3, the installation tabs on the drivers’ side of the bumper fascia were worn down to that point that they were not usable. This led to the fascia sagging and continuing to separate from the vehicle. As a result, Lake Pleasant Collision ordered an entirely new fascia, painted and installed it on April 15, 2016 at the cost of $1,753.94.Desired Settlement: Due to the fact that the Curt hitch model number 11901 is in fact unusable in its current design with the 2014 Cadillac CTS as indicated, I would like to return the hitch. I would also request that Curt Manufacturing make me whole and reimburse for the initial cost of the installation ($300) with At Your Door Mobile Hitches on 3/3/16 as well as the cost to replace the bumper fascia ($1,753.94) with Lake Pleasant Collision on 4/15/16. I would also recommend that Curt pull this product from market and redesign it so that it can be used as intended without damaging the vehicle.
