Curt's Auto Repair                                                                        11-30-2015Regarding Complaint ID # [redacted],In the first response to Mr. [redacted] complaint, I attempted to describe and clarify the situation. In this response, I will get right to the point. He basically has four complaints. In the order he addressed them, I will respond to them.1) The first complaint was about the ignition. We did replace the ignition for the previous owner of the vehicle. I did tell him that we would honor the warranty for the 12 months or 12,000 miles on the invoice. He brought in an invoice from[redacted] where they repaired the ignition after hours one evening when he was in a bind. I applied a credit of $150.00 to invoice# [redacted]{see attached invoice)which was the full amount that the locksmith charged him. Since[redacted] repaired the ignition, it is now their warranty. I attempted to expressto Mr. [redacted] that he would need to contact them. By reimbursing the customer for the [redacted] invoice. we went above & beyond our warranty which states that all warranty repairs are to be performed at Curt's Auto Repair(also stated on every invoice).2) The second complaint is about an oil leak from a messed up drain plug. This is the first time I have heard any mention of a messed up or cross-threaded drain plug. We did not perform an oil change on 10•5-15 because he couldn't afford it& he was only 226 miles overdue. He had gone more than the recommendeddistance for the oil change and did not mention an oil leak until that time. We had planned to correct the oil leak when the oil change was performed. We only verified the oil level on 10-5-15. We did not perform an oil change at that time. I do not feel that any warranty Is due in this situation.3) The third complaint is the brakes. We have never performed any front brakerepairs on this vehicle! I would have been willing to work with Mr. [redacted] with this repair had he brought it to us as discussed. He made an appointment for 10-20-15 to allow us to take a look at the noise. I have a digital copy of the message Mr. [redacted] left for us at 11:13PM 10-19-2015 cancelling that appointment(! can email It to anyone who wants it). It was at least 15 days afterthe van was at our shop before any brake repair was performed. During this timehe apparently took an extended road trip. I still have not seen any invoice or documentation from him. The van was not making any noise when it left here. If he drove it that long making that kind of noise, he must take responsibility for the magnitude of repairs required to make his van safe.4) The last complaint was about the tire repair. The tire was patched. I personally walked out and inspected the tire when Mr. [redacted] was here. The reason they probably cannot find a repair on the right rear tire is that we did a rotation at the same time. Look on the right front. We may be discussing an entirely different tire. Again, I wanted to take a look at it. Mr. [redacted] wants to set all of the warrant procedures. Warranties do not work like he wants them to work. You cannot take your [redacted] to a [redacted] dealership and expect [redacted] to pay for it. They may work with you in a few circumstances, but it will not happen time and again. I offered to apply the $19.95 he spent of the tire repair to the balance he owes us if he would show me an invoice stating that we did not perform the repair properly. I am now under the opinion that Mr. [redacted] is talking about a different tire than the one we repaired. I am still willing to apply that credit if he is willing to show documentation stating we did something wrong. If that Is unreasonable, please tell me what reasonable is.Curt's Auto Repair has made every reasonable attempt to service Mr. [redacted]. I trust that the people at the Revdex.com are fair and will help us work out a reasonable resolution. I have NO confidence that Mr. [redacted] Is willing to come to a reasonable agreement. He has continued to complain and still has not provided any documentation nor followed through with the appointments made to look at his car and address his concerns. We have worked for him on six different occasions, after which he seemed to be very satisfied. Now that he has a concern, Mr. [redacted] is complaining about several months worth of work. If he truly has been as disatisfied with the repairs as long of a time as he has expressed, he would not have kept coming back. His first requested settlement that we write off the $237.79 he agreed to pay was crazy. His second requested settlement of $1577.00 is totally ludicrous and further underscores our understanding that he unreasonable. We are trusting the Revdex.com to help us reach a fair resolution. Thank you for your time and consideration in this matter.
Sincerely,
[redacted]Curt's Auto Repair Manager

Kind of a sad way to reply; no facts about your work, no Appologies, no information regaurding your defenses of my accusations, just a lot of rambling on and on about things that didn't happen or things you don't want to admit is your fault, by trying to point the finger the other way, oh and verbal insults, really? Although in dealing with CURTS AUTO REPAIR for several months and watch you damage my car(s) time and again with no remorse or accountability I believe your reply is true to form( kind of how you know the track record of the worst horse in a race) ([redacted] is a we didn't do it type of service manager. What's funny with him is that the 1st time I went into Curts he told me that rhw car has been in there before by the previous owner for an ignition back in January and I asked him if it was covered for the warranty and [redacted] said yes, we'll repair it up to a year and I said great he said it's good to January 2016 I said great and thanks. So it's November 2015 and last month I told [redacted] the key got suck in the ignition and he told me he wouldn't repair it. Oh also when I got the oil leak repaired they said Curt screwed in the oil plug crooked and reemed the threads and left that way! Another flat out lie [redacted], you should check the cars BEFORE they leave Curts! Better idea don't you think? Good thing I have proof for everything, paperwork, witnesses, brake specialists(who can't believe they didn't catch the brake issue from a week prior, they say it was like that for long before Curts looked at it, like I said before, the brake specialists told me that 99.9% of mechanics would have caught it and told us not to drive( I guess That means Curts is in the .01% of mechanics that would have missed it)also true to form. Not suprised at this point. Exactly, how I've been treated since I've been going to Curts. Just worried for the next unsuspecting people who see the Revdex.com banners these unprofessional and below grade mechanics use to hide behind, to hook people in with their self praising and lack of good ethics. But now I want monetary compensation for ALL of the expenses that Curts AUTO Repair screw ups have cost us which includes;
 1. $802 brake system
2. Oil leak $285.
3. $25 tire repair you charged me for and NEVER did ( no patch was ever found! Per mechanic at Firestone)
4. $465 New Ignition still under warranty to date, you denied to fixed and breached warranty!
5. So $1577 in total damages I'm asking Curts auto repair for , no apology needed now.
I thought I was being way more than fair in my 1st complaint now it's time for Curts to get real, I hope this helps!

Thank you for taking time regarding this matter. In response to Mr. [redacted] letter, we feel that the work was performed in the best manner possible & we endeavored to communicate effectively with him throughout the entire process. The vehicle came in with a coolant leak. The technician advised...

that it was behind the intake manifold & hard to see the exact location. He was advised at that time that it was likely in the cylinder head or cylinder block area, but needed to remove the intake manifold to verify. Mr. [redacted] authorized further tear-down diagnosis. Once the manifold was removed, it was clear that the coolant leak was at the head gasket. He was given an estimate of roughly $1900.00 dollars at this time with the possibility of additional head damage as was stated on the invoice that Mr. [redacted] signed at the time of the delivery of the vehicle. Mr. [redacted] authorized this repair. Once the cylinder head was removed, it was pressure tested & checked to see if it was warped. The cylinder head had two exhaust valves that did not hold pressure & the cylinder head was warped in the same area that the coolant was leaking from. Mr. [redacted] authorized the repair of the cylinder head at roughly $450.00 additional. At this time there was a payment arrangement made that he would pay $2000.00 upon delivery of the vehicle & Curt's Auto Repair would carry the approximately $350.00 balance. The day that the cylinder heads were installed, the technician was torqueing the head bolts & the threads pulled out of the engine block. The process is a multi-step one & the bolt stripped out on the first torque step. At this point we contacted Mr. [redacted] and told him that it would be an additional $800.00 to install a Time-Sert thread repair kit in the cylinder block. He authorized the repair based on the fact that we were making payment arrangements with him. He called back 10-15 minutes later and stated that he really couldn't afford the repairs right now. He asked if he could tow it home and then bring it back in one or two months as soon as he was financially able to complete the balance of the repairs. It was told him multiple times at that time that the car would have to be towed because it was disassembled. At that time we also discussed what was a fair charge for the repairs that were performed. It was agreed that he would pay half of the cylinder head labor, the initial checkout, not the additional $300.00 tear-down diagnosis, and the cylinder head repair. We agreed that he would show up the following day because the car had to be reassembled enough that it could roll onto a tow truck. When Mr. [redacted] showed up at the shop the next day, he did express that he had some questions with the car.

I have been using Curt's for several years now.

When my truck was new I used dealer-only service. The quality and speed of those repairs were excellent. Of course dealer prices are extremely pricey.

As my truck aged and my financial condition also changed, I looked for a good independent repair facility. This is no easy task.

I selected Curt's and over the years have been very pleased with the quality of their work. They take the time to listen and their attention to detail is excellent.

Curt's has been extremely valuable when it comes to options for repairs that would have been very expensive at a dealer. Living on a fixed income, I am very happy for the time and effort that Jeff has invested in keeping my vehicle on the road and saving me money.

Curt's Auto Repair  Monday, November 16, 2015To whom It may concern,In response to the complaint filed by Mr. [redacted] regarding repairs periormed at our shop, there is no intention to refund the $237.79 nor to write a letter of apology. There are multiple...

misrepresentations in the complaint filed, The first is regarding the oil leaks. When we performed the oil change in May 2015, he did have to come back because the engine oil pan drain plug was not sealing, The next oil change in August 2015 he did not have to, When he returned in October, he wanted us to fix a slight leak at the drain plug. It was not a significant leak, and he was overdue for an oil change, Itold him at that time, when he could afford the oil change, we would replace the drain plug or drain plug gasket at no additional charge. He could not pay for the brakes that were into metal at that time, We made payment arrangements with him as an endeavour to keep him on the road safely because the [redacted] is his work vehicle that he is always pulling a trailer with. See attached, signed invoice with payment agreement on it. We had worked with Mr. [redacted] several times before and had even allowed him to make payment arrangements on one other occasion, Never during any of this was there a hostile conversation. There was never any aggravation about us telling him that he needed to pay for the service that was due to correct the drain plug leak, The second misrepresentation is that we offered no solution on the rubbing noise or the tire leak on his [redacted] Town & Country, Regarding the tire leak, he wanted to take it to a tire shop near his house, I told Mr. [redacted] that if they found that the leak was related to poor workmanship on our patch repair, I would take the twenty dollars that he paid for the patch off of what he owed us, 1 still have seen no documentation. If he picked up another nail in the tire. I'm not paying for that. If our patch did not take, 1 will still apply a $19.95 credit towards the balance due. Regarding the rubbing noise. I told him that he needed to get the car back to us so that we could correct the concern if it was anything related to the repairs performed. He told me that it was too inconvenient. I then let him know that he needed to get it looked at, even if another shop looked at it. If he was to get warranty or wanted any discounted repairs, or felt that we owed him something, he was to bring the car back to us. He made an appointment but later cancelled it. He did not take heed to my recommendation and apparently caused himself some grief. The van was not making a rubbing noise when at our shop. If a caliper bound up, the drive from Phoenix toAnaheim and back is definitely long enough to totally destroy a marginal set of brake pads, Again I still have not seen any documentation that indicates we did anything wrong. If he expects us to trust him after he tries to manipulate us and the situation, he is crazy, He disregarded our advice and put his family in danger. The dates that Mr. [redacted] gave were also false. I was at my Grandmother's funeral & arrived back in town on October 27, 2015 and attempted to contact him at that time. The last time he called here was on October 26th. He did leave a message cancelling the appointment prior to that. We recorded the message and have a copy of that if anyone wants verification. Since then I have made another attempt to contact him. Both of those times, he did not answer nor did he return my call. Also the third misrepresentation is that any of the things mentioned are even the real falling out between Mr. [redacted] and Curt's Auto Repair. This is what happened at the point that our business relationship turned bad. He purchased the [redacted] from a customer of ours. We had replaced an ignition lock cylinder for the previous owner. A few months into ownership of the vehicle, he called one afternoon and said that his Ignition was binding. I was going to honour our warranty even though the transaction was not in his name. He informed me that he couldn't get the car to our shop because of his tight work schedule and that he needed the car for work. I then went the extra mile and told him to call a locksmith and have the problem corrected and I would give him shop credit for the cost of the locksmith repair. He did and he received a $150.00 credit which he spent in August 2015. Fast forward to mid-October (after all of the complaints listed in the letter). Mr. [redacted] called us here at Curt's Auto Repair and told me that his ignition was binding up again and he wanted it warrantied. I let him know that he would need to call the locksmith that repaired the ignition. He did not think that we were reasonable at that point to ask that the last guy that repaired the ignition to be the one to warranty it. At this point Mr. [redacted] became unreasonable and obstinate. The bottom line is that we have gone the extra mile to servica Mr. [redacted]. We spent more money to send a locksmith out to repair the lock cylinder than we made on the repair. We have extended credit to him on two different occasions. Also, we have performed repairs at discounted prices to try to keep him happy. We strive to take care of our customers. If that isn't good enough, we are willing to part ways after he fulfills his end of the agreement and pays his bellance in full. We are also willing to accept an apology letter from Mr. [redacted] for allowing his actions to resemble those of a donkey.Sincerely, [redacted]Curt's Auto Repair Manager

Review: Short story I went in to get a coolant leak fixed came home towing my car with engine in pieces in the trunk and 1200 dollars less. I went in on Tuesday 9/23/2014 and they called me that same day to tell me that they need to remove the manifold which will be 300, so I asked will that be included in the repair they said yes. I asked for the estimate after they told me it was the head gasket, they said from 1200 to 1900 dollars. I said ok go ahead and fix the leak. then Thursday they called me telling me there's more problems and that it would put me at 2300 dollars, so I asked if they let me pay in payments they said only for part of it with 1900 down. Then on the day it was suppose to be done they told me there's another problem and that it would be 800 to fix one stripped head bolt. I then said no I cant afford that. That I want my car. then they told me ok it will be ready the next day. Upon arrival I saw my car in pieces and I was astonished I tried to argue with the guy but I am not one to argue. There is screws and bolts and random pieces everywhere and he did not clean the coolant of my engine he just gave me my car back in pieces and he left my new air filter dirty and oily very unproffesional. He did work on it I understand but he gave me my car worst than it was in the first place, why did he not help me out gave me alternate solutions. I am at loss as to what to do with my car I need it badly. I explained to him what I've been through without my car he did not seem to care at all. In the end im 1200 dollars short and car worst than it use to be. He kept adding and adding the original estimate to almost double. From 1900 to 3200Desired Settlement: I want either full refund or partial money back or at least my car like it use to be.

Response:

Thank you for taking time regarding this matter. In response to Mr. [redacted] letter, we feel that the work was performed in the best manner possible & we endeavored to communicate effectively with him throughout the entire process. The vehicle came in with a coolant leak. The technician advised that it was behind the intake manifold & hard to see the exact location.

Review: I will try to make this as brief and too the point as possible. The last and final time I tried to discuss the issues below, I asked to talk with the owner [redacted] to get help for the inferior previous incompetent workmanship and incompetent inspections which I've recieved at Curts auto repair. Below are the recent problems we've experienced at Curts:

1st and 2nd oil changes my [redacted] went in with no oil leak and came out with a good amount of oil leaking. After the 1st oil change I brought the car back, when I left, it was still leaking. They didn't get it right, until after I brought it back again. That's 3 visits for 1 oil change to get it to where it was when I brought it in the 1st time . The 2nd time they did the oil change, again it went in with no leak, then it came out with a bigger leak then after the 1st oil change. So I scheduled it to be brought in again have them fix the leak that they created again and do a rotation while the car was there. Neither was performed. As I always did, I informed [redacted], the service manager of my woes when I came to pick up the car ( after 4 hrs) and as he usually told me that he didn't get the instructions about the leak ( eventhough I called him more than once to let him know my car again was leaking oil after the oil recent oil change and he told me to swing it by and they'll take care of it again the car was in from their faults at my expense and again after the 2nd time it was in, it was still leaking! I have since fixed the leak, again at my expense.

Wait there's more! One month ago I scheduled my wife's car for Curts to do a rotation, inspection of the front brakes ( [redacted] had told me after he did the rear brakes a few months ago that maybe after 1 or 2 more oil changes the front brakes will need pads at that time) , inspect a tire for a leak that keeps losing air and to top off the power steering fluid in our 08 town and country mini van because we are taking our family to Disneyland for fall break and want to be safe, both [redacted] and [redacted] ( the receptionist were informed of this After 4 hrs of my wife and myself waiting in there waiting room with our 5 month old. [redacted] the receptionist told us the car was all set .[redacted] assured me all was good. I called [redacted] the next day to inform him that the front tire that he said he repIred with a patch was still leaking out the same as before, there was now a noise that sounded like a shh, shh, shh, shh coming from the front wheels as the car Rolls, that wasn't there when we brought it in and I told him that we are going out of town tomorrow and why is the tire leaking and why do I have a new sound coming from my front wheels after it was in your shop for 4 hrs. He offered no solution

But did say they pulled a nail out of the tire and patche'd it so it couldn't be them. COME ON CURTS! Curts could care less about there poor workmanship or my dissatisfaction every time I gave them another chance!

So we drove from Scottsdale to Aneheim Ca. And back with a locked up front caliper due to the inside brake pad that was completely gone, according to the proper inspection brake masters did, after we got back from out trip. Brake masters said the shh, shh, shh, shh we heard before we left was a locked up caliper which could have easily caused our brakes to fail especially up and down mountain roads like on the way to California. He said if we fixed them before we left we wouldn't have needed 1/2 of the stuff we did when we got back. And he also said that 99.9% of the time a mechanic would be able to spot the locked up caliper ( shh, shh, shh, shh ) problem and tell you not to drive!! Until it's fixed!! So we needed brakes that are safe so we had them do it. The front brakes were so bad he gave us an estimate of just over $800 to fix them properly. We should have been told by Curts auto repair of this problem with the dangerous locked up caliper when it was in just before we left .We should have been given at least standard service by this way self over rated shop. The total of my expenses between both vehicles are over $1000 because of Curts inadequate workmanship, creation of extra damage and inability to do a simple inspection, oil change or tire repair without multiple problems from what they've neglected to do they're after.

I thank God, our mini van didn't fail us on our trip!! Something Curts needs to thank god for too! I feel I need to part ways with Curts Auto Repair before something does happen God forbid, I believe I have an outstanding balance of around $200 for brakes with Curts, I Don't believe I owe them anything, if you take into consideration how much I've paid out because of Curts negligence, let alone our risk factor after using them based on how much we've paid other mechanics to do what they should have in the first place! Insidentally, we paid again for [redacted] to repair the leaky tire and it's fixed after one try!! Oh, and also, remember in the beginning of this complaint when I stated that I asked to talk with Curt the owner, so I could explain all of the above, well he declined to talk with me not once but twice, voice by [redacted] the receptionist. A+ rated companies care about their customers concerns think about that next time you need a mechanic. Sincerely[redacted]Desired Settlement: 0 balance on our acct. and a written apology via the Revdex.com to my family for these herenous screw ups

Response:

Curt's Auto Repair Monday, November 16, 2015To whom It may concern,In response to the complaint filed by Mr. [redacted] regarding repairs periormed at our shop, there is no intention to refund the $237.79 nor to write a letter of apology. There are multiple misrepresentations in the complaint filed, The first is regarding the oil leaks.

Response:

Kind of a sad way to reply; no facts about your work, no Appologies, no information regaurding your defenses of my accusations, just a lot of rambling on and on about things that didn't happen or things you don't want to admit is your fault, by trying to point the finger the other way, oh and verbal insults, really? Although in dealing with CURTS AUTO REPAIR for several months and watch you damage my car(s) time and again with no remorse or accountability I believe your reply is true to form( kind of how you know the track record of the worst horse in a race) ([redacted] is a we didn't do it type of service manager. What's funny with him is that the 1st time I went into Curts he told me that rhw car has been in there before by the previous owner for an ignition back in January and I asked him if it was covered for the warranty and [redacted] said yes, we'll repair it up to a year and I said great he said it's good to January 2016 I said great and thanks. So it's November 2015 and last month I told [redacted] the key got suck in the ignition and he told me he wouldn't repair it. Oh also when I got the oil leak repaired they said Curt screwed in the oil plug crooked and reemed the threads and left that way! Another flat out lie [redacted], you should check the cars BEFORE they leave Curts! Better idea don't you think? Good thing I have proof for everything, paperwork, witnesses, brake specialists(who can't believe they didn't catch the brake issue from a week prior, they say it was like that for long before Curts looked at it, like I said before, the brake specialists told me that 99.9% of mechanics would have caught it and told us not to drive( I guess That means Curts is in the .01% of mechanics that would have missed it)also true to form. Not suprised at this point. Exactly, how I've been treated since I've been going to Curts. Just worried for the next unsuspecting people who see the Revdex.com banners these unprofessional and below grade mechanics use to hide behind, to hook people in with their self praising and lack of good ethics. But now I want monetary compensation for ALL of the expenses that Curts AUTO Repair screw ups have cost us which includes; 1. $802 brake system2. Oil leak $285.
