Review: John S[redacted] of Custom Built Decks, signed a contract, in Nov of 2013, to remove and replace the second story deck on my property. The total cost of the job was $26,000 with a discount for prepayment of $18,000. Mr. S[redacted]'s associate came 2 months ago and removed part of deck, leaving a 10 foot drop off my kitchen. . I have children and pets he not only violated the contract he signed, but situation he has left me in is dangerous and in a worse position than I was in before.Desired Settlement: I would like Mr. S[redacted] to return the $18,000 deposit that he took.

Review: On April 15, 2014, I contracted John S[redacted] of Custom Built Decks, LLC to build a deck for $7500.00. The deck was to be constructed in June 2014. I gave Mr. S[redacted] a check for $2000.00 on April 15, 2014. I also gave him a check for $3000.00 on April 22, 2014 when he brought me the blueprints for constuction of the deck. I gave him a total deposit of $5000.00 towards construction of the deck.

I called him numerous times during the months of May 2014 and June 2014 to get a date of construction from him, but he could never give me an exact date. Finally on June 20, 2014, he told me that he would begin construction of my deck on June 30, 2014. When he failed to show up on said date, I called him to find out what Phad happened. He said that he could not come out for at least another two weeks. I then told him that he had breached our contract by failing to construct my deck within the specified time frame, and that I wanted my $5000.00 back. He said that he would call me back to resolve the issue, but he has failed to do so.Desired Settlement: I would like to have my $5000.00 refunded since I feel that he will never come out to build my deck for reasons not known to me.

I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID [redacted], and find that this resolution is satisfactory to me. However, I would not recommend this builder since he did not complete my deck until August 14, 2014. Our contract had stipulated that it should have been completed by June 30, 2014. Work did not even begin until July 2, 2014.

Review: I hired this company in February, 2014 to build my deck in May, 2014. After several phone calls, they finally put in the footers in early July. Have not seen them sense. I make repeated phone calls and get voicemail every time. I leave message after message and they not only don't show up to do the work but do not return my calls either.Desired Settlement: I'd either like the job finished in a timely manner or a full refund of the deposit I put down.

This job is NOT complete. The deck is finished but the two large holes that they made in the ceiling of my finished basement to put support brackets in are still open. They said they'd be back to close them with drywall. Haven't seen them since.

Review: We provided Custom Built Decks a Significant down payment on the building of our deck and patio in December of 2013. The initial drawings of the the deck and patio were rejected by both the Pa agency and aslo our neighborhood committee for not having enough detail. This was probably in February 2014. We were told this could be quickly corrected. It is now July 2014 and we are lucky to receive a return call with a new excuse for the delay in the permit approval. I left a message with the company today 7-22-14 and told them I expected in writing a plan to resolve the approval issue and a construction schedule within a week. The last construction start date that we were given was for 7-13-14, but there were no construction approvals at this time. The original start date that we were given was for March 2014.Desired Settlement: We expect the approvals to be received in the next week with construction to be finished within three weeks from today 7-22-2014. If this is not completed by Custom Built Decks in this time frame we will expect a complete refund of our deposit plus the payment of interest that we have lost during this time frame and an apology for the fact that we were treated unprofessionally during this whole process. If the work is completed to our approval (we will have the work inspected) and our written contract we will still expect a refund of 10% that we have currently paid and are owed and the remaining monies due on the contract would be waved.

Review: I signed a contract for the building of a raised deck on my property with the installation of lights on the rail posts (17 lights) and gates at each stairwell (2 gates). The contract was signed in early April, 2014 with a 90% deposit made for services to be delivered by mid to late June. The problems began early in the process when incomplete plans were submitted to the township for permit purposes. After failure to submit a plot plan for the deck, I was forced to complete and submit the plot plan myself. The problems continued as we could not establish a date for building the deck. Incomplete survey of the site led to further delays as I noticed that a water line and electrical outlet fell in line with the deck height on the house. I had to pay to have them relocated as the builder failed to properly assess the house for attachment of the deck. We were continuously delayed and lied to regarding delivery of the deck. Eventually, once we were finally given a date for the start of construction in late July, a month after the deck was to be completed, I scheduled the township inspector to come out to assess the post holes. When he came out at the agreed upon day and time, the builder was nowhere to be found and no holes were in place. I failed the inspection and was delayed another week. The following week, the deck was finally started and the frame and support decking installed. I was left with a massive pile of trash and construction waste on my property for almost 2 weeks after construction of the deck and was told that the lights and gates that I ordered were not in yet from the supplier. This was unacceptable since I paid for my ordered supplies in April and it was now August 2014. I was told that when the lights and gates were in, they would be delivered and installed. It is now September, 2014 and I have not received my lights and gates and every time in inquire to the company, I am forced to leave a message with no return call. When I do finally hear from the company, I am given the same excuse time and time again that they were delayed and they would "try" to install the lights the following week. It has been 5 weeks since the deck was built and it is still incomplete. I am furious with this company as I took got a recommendation from a friend who used them a few years ago. Obviously, with the massive number of complaints against them, the company has completely gone down hill since my friend had his deck built. John S[redacted], the owner of the company, has made repeated lies to me and my family about delivery of a product we paid for almost 6 months ago. He manipulates his customers to make them believe he will deliver a product by a certain date and uses every excuse to get away with it. Since he manipulates his customers with the "deal" of saving 10% by depositing 90%, he forces his customers into agreements that he knows will not be delivered on time or at all.Desired Settlement: I expect delivery of my paid for order by mid September with installation of my post lights and deck gates. I have been more than patient with this company and am completely fed up with this entire process. I will never recommend this company to build anything for anyone.

Regards,

Review: We paid full amount to build a deck on 7/4/2013. It has been almost 11 months now and the deck is still not completed .

Custom Built Deck showed up 4 months after the full payment was made to dig holes to start the deck. Then they showed up again two months later (Feb 2014) to put in the base to start the

deck work. Then they showed up once again in April 2014 and did some more work , but never showed up again. After 11 months from the contract and full payment , the deck is less than half complete and my family can't use my backyard due to the incomplete work . Also the incomplete work is posing security concerns for my family . Numerous calls were made to the business, and 90% of the calls were not returned.

We are very frustrated with no proper response from the business after paying our hard earned savings to build a deck so our family can enjoy summer.

Looking forward to your help and assistance.Desired Settlement: We would like the business to commit to a date to complete the remaining work with quality and stick to the commitment.

Review: Contracted with Custom Built Decks on 3-22-14 for a deck to be built with construction slated to begin late May-early June. The total cost of the project was estimated to be $18,500. We were offered a 10% discount if we put down 90%, which was a total of $16,500. John S[redacted] of Custom Built Decks presented us with the contract and two checks were written, one for $8,000 and one for $8,650. Called the contractor in the beginning of June to confirm a start date. Was told the construction would begin June 22. No one arrived. Contractor came to our home the last week in June to tell us he was going to apply for permits to begin construction. Permits were received July 1st. Was told by the contractor that construction would now begin July 7th. No one arrived. Called and left many messages with the contractor. New start date was given as August 12th. Again, no one arrived at our home. The contractor come to our home August 14th to drill holes for the foundation of the deck. On August 20th, lumber for the framing was delivered to our home priced at $1,612.23. Framing construction was completed the following week over a two day period. As of September 28th, no other work has been completed. Trash was left on site. We have called the contractor 4-5 times a week to figure out what was going on. The contractor finally admitted that he does not have the funds to complete our project. We are also confused as to whom is the actual owner of the company. Our business dealings have been with what we have been led to believe is the owner, John S[redacted], but the MD contracting license is in the name of John M[redacted] Jr.Desired Settlement: At this point, it has been almost 4 months since the deck was supposed to be constructed. We have been living in a state of construction and unable to use our backyard and back door for over a month. Our desire is to have the project completed as soon as possible. We no longer feel as if working independently with the contractor will allow us to have our deck construction completed. We would like to work with the Revdex.com to come to our desired conclusion and protect our sizable investment.
