My initial meeting with Mark, Custom-Built Retaining Walls LLC, took place in April about an hour after I called him seeking a bid for repairs to some very large boulders in our backyard that were serving as a retaining wallThat meeting lasted almost hours during which time Mark looked at the layout of our backyard and the current deteriorating condition of the boulders-wall, and mentally designed a solution to our problemAs it turned out, what he envisioned encompassed not only the architectural design of the hardscape (structure) but also the types of stones/pavers and the relocation of the boulders into other areas of the yard to alleviate the steep slope that comes with property located at the top of a hillHe literally had transformed our backyard in his mind, without paper and pencilOnce he presented the sketch of his vision to us, we were amazed not only by the overall design and appearance of the transformation, but also by the detail Mark put into his designLast spring was a very wet spring so the project experienced about a month-long weather delay; but the wait was definitely worth itWhen it came time to begin the project, Mark worked side-by-side with his men, first disassembling our back yard and then installing not only a stone retaining wall but a gorgeous illuminated paver patio with a sitting wall and a buifire pit with each stone skillfully set by handMark’s vision is now our backyard reality, and everyone that sees it says it is beautiful Mark and his men should be recognized for their dedication to the project, making sure that it was done with accuracy and skillMark is a perfectionist who made sure the job met his stringent criteria for a job well doneWe are so very pleased with their work and proud to recommend Mark and his firm to anyone looking for a “backyard makeover”

We had major erosion issues and needed some retaining walls built to correct the problem. Two companies come out and bid the job. The first company came out and said they could put up two large retaining walls backed with dirt and fix the erosion problem. Then Mark, from Custom Built Retaining Walls, came out started looking at the entire yard. After about an hour in our back yard, he said he not only could fix the erosion like the other guy but said if this were his house, he would go one step further and transform the back yard into an outdoor living area. Mark told us what he envisioned and drew up plans. (We had just had our house appraised and knew that just adding retaining walls would not add value to my house but that an outdoor living area would add a lot of value.)

We gave Mark the go ahead to do the job. We were blown away by the results!!! We could never have imagined how beautiful it would turn out. Mark created an elegant paver patio with a fire pit, sitting wall, and LED lighting. The patio is so elegant that neighbors who see it when they drive through the neighborhood stop, get out of their car, and walk to our back yard to see it. My wife and I still can’t believe it is our house when we look out the back window at the patio.

Mark is a true perfectionist and does things as if he is working on his own house. And, unlike other companies, he doesn’t leave your project until it is done!!!
