Experienced very rude, inconsiderate, and unprofessional behavior from the realtor and other office staff handling our month seasonal rental of a three bedroom, two bath condo in a large development in FtMyersWhen we arrived, the air conditioning was not working, the garbage disposal was broken and the sink was not draining, there were no working lights in the garage, the Direct TV was broken, the owners failed to provide the (promised) WiFi password, the kitchen cabinets and drawers were filthy, as were the floors, and the living room sofas were dirty, with food, comb, and used insulin needle under the cushionsThe refrigerator had leftover food in it, the bedroom dresser drawers contained previous tenants' (or owner's) clothing, the bathrooms' medicine cabinets and vanities contained the owner's personal toiletries, including sleep apnea machine attachments, and one bedroom's ceiling fan had a wiring problem, so that it turned on to the highest setting even after being turned off
We spent many days calling the realtor, waiting for repairmen and technicians to arrive to fix the problemsThe realtor told us we could go to the development's club house to use their WiFiUnfortunately, the club house is only open three days a weekShe didn't seem to think this was an imposition, after we paid top dollar for a unit that was to have free internet for our useIt took them days to send a TV repairman; he informed us that he would have been there in one day if they had been called earlier by the ownersThe a/c was leaking freon and had the wrong size/filthy filterThe realtor blamed the cleaning service for not reporting that it was brokenWe got a discount on the cleaning fee because we spent several days emptying the kitchen drawers, cabinets, and refrigerator, cleaning the interiors, and washing all dishes, glasses, utensils, bowls, pots, pans, etcThe realtor insisted that a cleaning service had been in a few days before we arrived and had spent the day getting the unit ready for usI have pictures of the condition of the unit, including the Swiffer pads it took to wash the tile floors, and the filth found under the sofa cushionsShe stated that the owners would not allow her in to inspect the unit before the cleaners cameShe also insisted that though she didn't return after the owners left, or the cleaning crew, she and Malt were not responsible for the condition of the unit
The ceiling fan was finally disconnected by repairmen after we provided information that an appliance making strange noises and turning itself off and on was a fire hazardThe owner had admitted in one phone conversation with the tech that they knew this fan was not working properlyThey also admitted they knew other light fixtures and broken items were not in working condition when they had vacated the unit prior to renting it out
The final straw was when we discovered MOLD in the bedroomsThere was a small wet spot we discovered on the rug in one bedroomA water restoration tech came out, pulled the base boards away in all three bedrooms, and found water leaking from the walls/windowsThey found mold behind all of the base boardsThe techs set up huge, very noisy commercial fans and dehumidifier units in each bedroom, which were to run hours a day, with hoses running from each dehumidifier into the bathrooms - two hoses into one sink and one hose into a showerThis made it impossible for us to sleep in the bedroomsWe could use one sink in one bathroom and the shower in anotherThe smell of mold permeated all of the unit, including our clothesThe realtor insisted that we should stay while they tested the unit for more mold, including removing walls, because they would put up plastic "containment" around all the windows and equipment to prevent the spread of mold and dustWhen I told them that I am a lung cancer survivor and the other person traveling with me has severe allergies, they said that this shouldn't be a problem and the health department would agree with them that this was a suitable solutionThe fact that we had paid over $a month for this vacation did not seem to deter themOnly after we insisted that this was a total disaster and we could not stay did they offer to try and find us alternative living arrangementsThe realtor sent us to a "manufactured home" development, where we discovered the 'substitute' vacation home was a two bedroom, one bath double wide trailer for the same price as the condoShe failed to see the need to come with us and told us to 'peek through the windows' to check it outAll the window blinds and curtains were drawn, so we could not see inThe air conditioner on the outside of this trailer was rusty and not running
We finally settled on a partial refund of our money and left after almost weeks of non-stop problemsThe bad service of the realtor was such that we would never again rent from this company
