Paint and repair job on 1993 [redacted] was very poorly done. Some of the agreed repairs were not completed when car was picked up in July. Car was dropped off January 2016 and a $1500 deposit was given to owner. Owner promised me I would be happy with his work and that he would "treat my car as if it were his own". I checked in about every 6 weeks to see if the car had been finished and heard nothing but excuses. Finally in July the car was "finished" and I went to pick it up. Inside the shop I didn't see and flaws being it is poorly lit. I paid the owner the remaining $1500 on my bill bringing the total to $3000 for the job. Once I got the car outside in the daylight to load it for transport I noticed a couple of issues right away. The front and rear bumper covers both had runs. I also noticed that under the hatchback lid the seam sealer had not been replaced and a small rust place had not been fixed. The owner was shown the seam sealer and rust spot when I dropped the car off and the contract stated to "redo seam sealer". The "redo" ended up being just filling in a few small places were the seam sealer was missing and ignoring the small rust spot. Once I was home and got to reassembling the car I found areas that had "orange peel" and runs. Owner let me know that he reinstalled my drivers side mirror, this was apparently an attempt to try to cover up an area of paint that was missing on the door that came off when the masking tape was pulled off. A few of the ground effect parts had not been painted completely leaving the top edges dry and rough looking. New door molding was purchased and delivered to the shop to be painted with the car. They were painted and one ended up with deep scratches that went through the paint and into the molding. Owner told me he would fix the ground effect parts, molding, hatchback lid and door. I even went through the trouble of removing the ground effects, door and hatchback lid and delivered them to him within a few days after picking up the car. The rear spoiler also had runs and some dry rough areas, it was delivered about a week after. A few days later it was noticed that the windshield was scratched from a sander and the carpet was stained with white spots apparently from some type of chemical. I sent the owner pics of both and he said he would handle it in a couple of days. After 2 weeks had said he was going to get it the next day. Finally the windshield was replaced Sept 14th and the carpet arrived Sept 19th which I will have to install myself. When I went to pick up the carpet he had ordered I checked on the parts that had been returned and after 2 months nothing had been touched. Being that I had been dealing with this 9 month circus I decided to take all of my parts home and have someone else complete the needed repairs. No apologies or refund were offered for services that were not completed. I got the reaction from owner that I was looking for a "show quality" paint job when I would have been happy with a "quality" job. I understand that nobody is perfect but there are too many things wrong here to be an acceptable job. I have had a few vehicles painted before and the finish of those jobs have been smooth and slick with no runs or "orange peel". It's apparent that he did not want to make the repairs and figured I would get tired of waiting, which turned out to be the case. After 9 months and $3000 it should have been near perfect but it seems that it was a rush job at the end of 7 months. There are no cheap or easy fixes for these issues. Desired SettlementPartial refund for my labor to install carpet that was damaged by Custom1 body shop and the cost that I will have to pay to have repairs made.
