On 1/5/16 we received a call from [redacted].He stated that either his transmission or clutch had gone out on his 2000 Ford Mustang and he needed it towed in for inspection. We towed the vehicle into our shop. Upon inspection we could...
not determine what was making the noise. I discussed with the customer that before we could determine the problem we would have to tear into it to see the issue. The customer asked what the charge would be and he was informed it would cost $250 for the tear down and estimate. Customer gave approval. We tore the vehicle down and determined that the transmission had locked up. He had tried driving it and burned the clutch up, pressure plate & fly wheel assembly. The customer was given an estimate on his vehicle of $1584.85 for parts and labor. The customer stated that he didn't have enough money for the repairs. He had another vehicle that needed repairs and he would bring it in. The vehicle that was brought in was a 2003 Ford Escort. The repairs were completed and this vehicle was was picked up on 1/8/16 with the bill of $529.87 being paid in full. [redacted] and his father, [redacted], came in on 1/8/16 to pick up the 2000 Ford Mustang. [redacted] was arguing about the cost of the estimate on the vehicle. He informed me that we were taking advantage of him and that it shouldn't have taken that long or cost that much to do an estimate. He said that we weren't any different then the other shops in the area that had treated him the same way. He offered to pay $200 for the $325 bill( $250 for tear down/estimate & $75 towing). I informed him that that was not my way of doing business and that I didn't over charge him and the bill was $325. He continued arguing for around 30 minutes. After listening to him repeatedly, my wife came into the office and told him that he needed to pay his bill and leave and stop making a fool out of himself. She also informed [redacted] that she hoped he didn't act like his dad. After arguing a little longer, he decided to pay the bill in full and leave with the vehicle. I feel that this is a case of a customer that never satisfied and thinks that everyone is taking advantage of them.
