Cuts N Curls Reviews (1)

Review: My daughter came to this salon on Sunday July 22 around 3 pm with her friend and friends' parent for friends' birthday. My daughter got her nails and toes done (which who ever did the french manicure needs to go back to school, my nail tech does a much better job, it was very sloppy). As my daughter was getting her hair done the hair dresser tied in 1 strand a tinsel and noticed my daughter had white flakes in her hair. The hair dresser asked my daughter if she had dandruff she replied with yes. The hair dresser asks out loud who is the parent of the birthday girl? The parent who brought them said "I am" the hair dresser then said well this girl over her has head lice and eggs. Now first off you do not announce it to the world. Also the hair dresser already started on my daughters hair why was she not checked before the start, ? The parent in charges asked if it was a nit or actual eggs. Now a properly trained individual would have checked if it was lice by checking behind the ear. The hair dresser acted as if my daughter had some disease that was deadly. The parent asked if the salon treats head lice the hair dresser responded with "she shouldn't even be in here" the parent asked well do you have a hair cap or something? The hair dresser came back over with a disgusted look and from a far distance as if she would get a disease handed the parent the hair cap. Where is the professionalism in all of this? When is it ok to make an 11 year old feel like they are disgusting? My daughter came home embarrassed with her fingers crossed as 2 people checked her head for these "lice and eggs"... SHE HAS NOTHING EXCEPT DANDRUFF. I take my daughter to a hair salon in Willoughby, Ohio and never once ever had an issue. This hair dresser was completely rude and unprofessional. She made an accusation in front of others that was untrue. She is not well trained to handle these types of situations.Desired Settlement: I believe the parent should be fully refunded. As for my daughters experience how can you ever "fix" something like this? The hair dresser should be held responsible for her uneducated guess and be trained to handle situations in a more professional manner. More training on head lice and training in how to handle a difficult situation or termination. I will be contacting legal advice on how to handle this embarrassing assumption this hair dresser made.

Response:

In response to the complaint made by [redacted] I would first like to say that I understand that head lice can be embarasing to some parents that are uneducated about the bug. It is not a "dirty" persons issue not is it a disease. It is very common and is really more of a hassle then anything else. If a parent is embarassed by it we can not do anything about that.

Next I would start by answering all of [redacted] complaints and verbatim conversations with the fact she was NOT present at the store and is simply giving her version of something she DID NOT witness. I feel badly that the two girls were unable to finish having their hair done but we have a policy at our HAIR SALON that no one with lice is allowed in the store and if we suspect lice we will ask that child to leave the store so that the salon remains the clean sanitary environment that we stress at CNC for the concern of all our clients.

The girls got their toes and nails done and the girls in fact did not get french manicures but a polish with glitter over it. All the staff have completed traing in hair and nails to get their license from the STATE BOARD of COSMOTOLOGY.

When the one girl was about to get hair bling put in the one stylist that was going to do her hair asked the store manager if she thought that she had lice. The manager checked her scalp and the two together felt based on years of experience that yes she in fact did have lice. It is incorrect to check for lice just behind the ears. Lice can be all over the entire scalp. They also checked theother girl at her parent's request and determined that she simply had dry scalp. There would have been no reason to ask who is th eparent of the birthday girl because at the time NO ONE else was in the salon. This can be verified by our computer records. There was no "announcement of lice" because again there was no one else in the salon at that time.

It was in fact the parent there that was very upset and would not go near the child as if she was disgusted. The staff tried to show the parent what they were talking about. She seemed annoyed that the girl's parent had put her in this situation. She commented that the kids were returning from camp and that they had this problem last year. She asked how would she get the girl into her car? The manager responded with telling her that she get her a shower cap. TOgether they walked back to the shampoo bowls to get the cap. The manager did not hand it to her across the store as if she was disgusted. The staff does not get disgusted by lice. We understand that it is a treatable bug... nothing more. If the child felt that she had a "disease" it would be because of how the parent that was present behaved and responded. The parent also asked if we knew howlong she probably had it which we could not tell her. It was the staff that tried to calm the parent and explain that it rally was no big deal that simply she could not be in the store. The parent asked if we treat lice and we responded with no but we sell aproduct for it. The mom asked how much for the shower cap and the manager said she wouls give it to her for free since she seemed visibly shaken and the price was adjusted for their services since they could not finish getting their hair done. The staff remained very positive and upbeat. The parent that was present seemed very appreciative of how things were handled and very annoyed that she was put in this situation.

No refund will be given for services rendered.

Response:

As the response stated how can I the parent make a complaint when I was not there, how can a manager that was not there make a response to my complaint as a concern of my daughter being treated in a public place that is suppose to service children in a kind manner -I am assuming- . I am very educated as being a previous teacher having to have dealt with lice in students. The parent that was there was not offered products to purchase (she would have bought them so I can treat it) she asked if the salon sold anything and they did not offer anything. The parent who took the children is a very close friend and I find it very unlikely that she treated my daughter in an unloving way because in fact this parent has dealt with lice in a previous situation and knows how to handle this without upsetting the child. The parent called me as this was going on in the salon. The matter was not handled professionally. The parent was told my daughter had to leave not asked to. She has been checked by a licensed professional and does not have lice. As for the manicure since I go to a nail salon twice a week, my daughters' toes where painted as "watermelon" with her tips green this is considered a manicure/pedicure paint job. The paint job is not even the point here. I asked in a voice message that I left to be notified on the training of the particular hair dresser and how recent these . I did make a phone call to the parent who took my daughter there and she called to speak to the manager about their service and to actually by some binders to only be told attorneys can speak and was hung up on. "The customer is always right." The manager [redacted]. left me a message stating she would not further discuss this matter with me but instead with our attorneys. What happens when you falsely accuse someone? The words out of the hair dresser was "she had lice and eggs" no where did she state she thought she had it and for the safety of the salon which would have been more appropriate and there would have been no complaint. The children also were never in camp so I do not know how this would come up in the response my daughter has never been in a camp before. As a teacher I know there are better ways to handle a uncomfortable situation with a child without making them cry. As the hair dresser put a piece of tinsel in my daughters hair she noticed something "move" she called over another individual yes and they just looked at the area where the tinsel was placed. Dandruff moves. I am aware of the fact lice is not a "dirty" person disease no one said anything about being dirty there is another assumption made. These types of situations that arise and are not handled correctly lead to our children having bad complexes and even worse. I am not taking this matter lightly. My daughter told me the parent did not make her feel bad it was the hair dresser(s) in question. It is already hard growing up with children being bullied and mean us adults do not need to act that way. The hair dresser(s) should be held accountable for the unprofessional way they handled this and should offer my daughter a full apology. And I will notify the parent that she was only charged for services given. This salon will never be recommend by us for any services. This matter will never be resolved because no one will take any responsibility for their actions.

Response:

The only response I have to that very lengthy diatribe is that the mom that was HERE in the store called back the very next day and spoke with me, [redacted], the owner and wanted to book more appointments for the SAME two girls that were here in the store that were so very "traumitized and bullied". The girls had their heads checked elsewhere for lice and where told that they were lice free. This being the case they would like to come back and have their hair done. Clearly the girls enjoyed their experience at the salon and the parents couldn't really be upset if they wanted their children to come back. Any further communication about this is simply ridiculous. This mom needs to understand that lice is nothing to be embarassed about and let this go. The children had a wonderful time. My staff was curtious and professional as they always are.
