Cuttin' Edge Construction Reviews (1)

Review: I hired this contractor to add a handicap bathroom to our basement to accommodate our aging parents. They moved in with us in December just before Christmas and needed this addition to be able to function in home and out of a skilled facility. I was told this would take 2-4 weeks barring any problems. There was one issue where we decided mid-project to change from a tub to a handicap shower. This did cause a delay because we had to wait 2 weeks for the shower to be delivered. With that in mind, it is now March 10 and we are still WAITING for this bathroom to be completed. I understand a 6 week job due to the wait on the shower, but I do NOT understand this taking over 2 months. It is still to be determined how long this will take to finish. We also presented the contractor with certain specifications for the toilet that made it possible for my dad to get on and off of as he had practiced at this height at the rehab facility. We didn't get a toilet at the correct height, it was 5" too low, so now that we thought we were getting closer to getting this room done. there is not only a delay but no formulated plan to get this fixed. Despite the fact the contractor knew exactly what we needed before he started, he was unable to deliver results. This has caused extreme stress in my family having all 6 of us living on the same level of the house. The dementia of my mom has worsened and there has not been enough space for all of us. The fact that I was promised 2-4 weeks is why I had chosen this contractor because it was of the utmost importance that we get this done as quickly as possible.Desired Settlement: I am NOT willing to pay the entire 15,000 that I have already paid the contractor and request 1500.00 of the labor cost be refunded as the job was not done as promised.

I received a complaint about some customer service issues about a bathroom I completed. My customer was not satisfied with the time it took to complete the project. I told them 2 to 4 weeks if everything went as planned. Unfortunately things happened during the process that none of us could control. The rough in plumbing was installed for a tub shower and once I started framing the bathroom I found out the tub shower was not going to give us the proper room for wheelchair access. My customer decided to go with a shower so we had to change the plumbing again. After that we decided to build a little bit bigger bathroom then the original plans. The shower was ordered by my customer and they said it would take two weeks to get the shower in. About a week went by and the store called my customer and said they could no longer get the shower he picked so he had to order a different style. I feel like there were multiple factors that happened that we could not control. The plumber came and finished setting the sink and shower, the next day I received a text message from my customer that she was not happy with what was installed and she was very upset. I contacted her husband and assured him that I would make sure everything would be correct once we finished. He then told me everything was fine and he was ok with everything but his wife was still upset. The next day I went over and corrected everything that she was upset about. After that I texted her the next day and asked her if she reviewed the bathroom and she said she did and everything looked great. The bathroom took longer then it normally takes because of some issues but in the end I feel like the bathroom turned out great. I am truly sorry that they were unhappy with certain things, I hope they can move on and enjoy the beautiful bathroom for years to come.

I have reviewed the response offer made by the business in reference to complaint ID [redacted], and have determined that this proposed action would not resolve my complaint. For your reference, details of the offer I reviewed appear below.I did state in the original complaint that there were issues with the shower/tub but the fact that we had to continually call/text for someone to come do their job to finish this bathroom was ridiculous. We did order the shower but it didn't take a week for us to be told it was not available, that happened the next day. We then ordered the one available and 2 weeks later we had the shower. It then took another week of texting to get someone over there to do the work, not to mention my husband did a lot of the work down there HIMSELF just to try to speed up the process since we were getting no response or responses that require we wait several days for anyone to show up. HE the new concrete digging for the shower change from the tub and all the insulation!! DO NOT pretend all went smoothly other than waiting for a shower!! THAT is certainly not the case. I didn't get ANY of the customer service I should have gotten for a 15,000 bathroom! This was the absolute worst customer service I had ever seen NOONE seemed to care except us that this was an extremely time sensitive situation since my parents had to get downstairs to their hospital beds and it was also necessary that physical therapy and occupational therapy work with them in this environment so they can get used to carpet and the equipment down there. THIS NEVER HAPPENED!! It couldn't happen because we couldn't get them down there waiting for the bathroom to get finished and PT and OT had to discharge them before it was done because they could no longer justify working with them not being in the basement!!! This was so much more than a bathroom! There were many health issues to deal with! Not to mention My mom has 5 compression fractures in her back and had to sleep on a recliner against physicians advice until the basement was done, there was nowhere else to put her hospital bed, she ended up in rehab for a month trying to get her back to standing again!! When she came back, the bathroom STILL was not done!! She ended up back on that recliner out of necessity waiting for the basement!! It seems the contractor thinks this is just a bathroom like any bathroom! I would have chosen another contractor if I had only known this would have taken so long. Three months is a bit ridiculous compared to the 2-4 weeks promised! I still want some of the labor costs refunded as we did way more of the work than we should have done. We shouldn't pay someone for labor if we are doing the work!!!

Regards,

I have reviewed the response from my customer, there were some issues during the bathroom build with the plumber getting there the days he said he was going to come. He told me he had some emergency calls on the days he was supposed to come. I kept my customers in the loop during the bathroom build about what was going on. I understood there frustration about the plumbing so I offered to paint the bathroom for free. I painted the bathroom and apologized for any inconvenience that was caused. There were a few things that the husband did do but they were not on the estimate and I assured him that we would take care of everything we were supposed to take care of and he said it was no problem he wanted to help. I did not promise any specific date that the bathroom would be completed. I told them two to four weeks if everything went as planned and it did not go as planned. I was there everyday I said I was going to be there and totally finished the bathroom. The last day I was there I spoke with the husband and he told me everything was fine and that he was happy with everything that we had done. I texted his wife the next day and asked her if she reviewed the bathroom and she texted me back that she did look at the bathroom and everything looked great. I am Truly sorry she is not happy with the completion time. I take my business very serious that is why I offered to paint the bathroom for free and apologized multiple times for any inconvenience that I may have caused them. The bathroom was fully functional the last day I was there. The husband texted me a couple days later and told me the bathroom passed the final inspection from the county. I texted him back that I was sorry again and to let me know if they needed anything else. He then texted me back that everything was good.Sincerely,[redacted]Cuttin Edge Construction LLC

To resolve this issue I want the afore mentioned partial refund of labor costs. I am prepared to file with attorney general if necessary
