I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID [redacted], and find that this resolution is satisfactory to me.  However, the shutters were never painted (part of orignal contract) and I will also have to do touch up in more than several locations due to overspray and areas entirely missed.  Not happy with this experience at all, although I must say that [redacted] the 2nd painting crew was much better than the first.  Will never use College Works again - you get what you pay for!

Review: We signed a contract on April 4, 2015 for our home and garage to be painted (including scraping, wire brush, fill, caulk, glazing, wash, drop sht, spot primed) at the cost of $4207. Two months later, the district rep, Josh, came back with John to say they couldn't do it at said price. The 2 options we were given were: cancel the signed contract or to split the difference and sign a new contract. We chose option #2 as if we fought the company, the money would be tied up in lawyer fees or the job would be done terribly because the company didn't want to do it at the 1st contracted price. We were quoted the job would take 4 days. The company finished on day 37, 9+ times longer than quoted. The scraping that happened prior to painting was completely inadequate. The on-site foreman said they would scrape a second time after the first coat was applied as the spray painter would loosen the paint up. We had them scrape again as it was done so poorly the first time and it still looks terrible. The company then said they would put primer on the home to help the new paint adhere to the old paint and therefore the house. I came home from work to find the on-site foreman was putting the primer on very sloppy and leaving excess primer on the house. By painting over the poorly applied primer, the house has more uneven spots. We contacted our district manager who advised us to work with the on-site foreman about quality of work. We advised the on-site foreman several times on how to scape the house and how to apply primer evenly. He said he understood, but yet, we come home to find it inadequately done. The on-site foreman worked on our home by himself for several weeks because he had "no money left to pay anyone," "his staff quit" and his sprayer broke so he had to hand paint. We also talked to the district manager regarding how long this project was taking. We indicated the company told us 4 days when we signed the contract and we needed it done ASAP (this was after 34 days). Our on-site foreman then informed us that the project needed to be completed by July 24 because he was going on vacation. Our on-site foreman expedited his work and continued his unsatisfactory work just to complete the job. There was a point where his father worked on our home for a whole day to assist in meeting his timeline. The on-site foreman left that Friday stating if there was anything that needed to be touched up we could set up a time the following week.

There are so many touch ups that we are currently only going to have him do the touch ups on the second floor. We pointed out these touch ups many times prior to his last day, July 24.

The list of items we will be painting include: basement window (scaping, etc.), screen window, plethora of spots of primer that were not painted over, in between the boards on the porch, missed spots on the lattice work, many spots that need additional paint, and an entire section of the side of the house that needs a second coat.

There are also two areas of our yard that are now dead due to the paint brushes/equipment being rinsed (we did ask if they needed buckets, we were told "no, the grass will be fine") and where all the company equipment was under a tarp for 4+ weeks.

Two of our windows are scratched because the employees left masking tape on the windows for too long and it was difficult to get off.

This was a complete disaster and we would NOT recommend this company to anyone. We couldn't eat for days and now we are having the on-site foreman touch up a few things and we are doing the rest of the work.

We have contacted the on-site foreman, the district manager and the customer service department for the company without success. Many pictures were sent to the company's home office.Desired Settlement: We would like a billing adjustment and contact by the company's home office as the time frame for the project went 9+times longer than quoted causing us to delay putting our home on the market, the quality of work is abysmal, and we have to complete the work ourselves as we cannot trust the company and their employees.

Hello,

Review: We have a signed contract for the painting of our house. The painters stopped work after our house was about half to 3/4 painted. The manager stated it was because the project was grossly underbid. I have an incomplete job and the manager said he would find a contractor to finish the job. It has been almost a week and I have heard nothing. Bathe paint job that is in place is of poor quality and we will most likely need to start from scratch.Desired Settlement: We want the job completed to our satisfaction at the original agreed upon price.

Hello,

We contracted with College Works Painting to paint the exterior trim on our home in June 2015. What a nightmare!! The "foreman" on the job obviously knew nothing about painting or customer service. The directions for the paint, Sherwin Williams Exterior Acrylic Coating, clearly states "Avoid using if rain or snow is expected within 2 - 3 hours." The Surface Preparation instructions states "The surface must be dry. No exterior painting should be done immediately after a rain, during foggy weather, or when rain is predicted." In spite of these clear instructions, College Works showed up to paint immediately after a soaking overnight rain when the humidity was in excess of 95%, it was foggy and thunderstorms were predicted for the rest of the day. I had to send them away!! Another day when the weather was fair in the morning, they painted for a few hours and CONTINUED TO PAINT AS IT STARTED RAINING. I stopped them when the rain started WASHING THE PAINT OFF THE SURFACE THEY WERE PAINTING. Again, I had to send them packing. After a week of wrestling with this young man about the wet conditions, and pointing out multiple missed areas numerous times, the job was finally completed. UGH! NEVER AGAIN!

Review: complaint was originally about amount of paint used to paint my entire house , less than 4 gal. , thus very poor coverage. Coverage stated on paint can 350-400 sq. ft. , my house is at least 2600 sq. ft. After calling Corp. office with issue they said they would have area manager Joey, call me. A week went by no call , so I called again , lady said she would contact Joey and his supervisor , about 2 days later Joey called and I explained my issues and he said he would have Valerie and her crew repaint house and upgrade my warranty to 5 yrs., said he would have Valerie contact me. 2 weeks went by and no call , so I called Corp. again , lady said everyone was on a retreat ! but would send message , once again no call back, VERY UPSET CUSTOMER !!Desired Settlement: Paint house as promissed , proper customer service

I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID [redacted], and find that this resolution is satisfactory to me.

Regards,

The whole experience was stressful. The crew is inexperienced, messy, and lazy when it comes to details. Paint was spilled everywhere, got on my neighbors driveway and the road. The project took a month. Once the money was handed over with the understating that certain things would be completed, it took weeks of here and there painting. Dirt on sills was painted over, things had to be done twice or three times to get it right. The prep wasn't done too well and there are paint runs and brush strokes in a lot of areas. Overall if I had it to do over again I would never use this company.
