Cycle Therapy NYC Reviews (1)

Review: My motorcycle was taken to Cycle Therapy so that an insurance adjuster could inspect the bike as part of a claim from when the bike was knocked over whilst parked in front of my house. I did not authorize any work to be done. This morning the adjuster, [redacted], informed me that he inspected the bike yesterday and wrote up his estimate. He further advised me that he has had many problems with this shop in the past involving the unreasonable withholding of people's bike's. He strongly advised me to get the bike out of there until the claim was paid, at which time I would be able to return to the shop and get the work done that the insurance paid for. He related to me that Cycle Therapy is notorious for attempting to extort charges for unauthorized estimates, storage fees, etc. So I called them straight away this morning and sure enough everything that [redacted] from [redacted] told me was true. The service manager, [redacted], told me he wouldn't give me my bike back without a $170 cash payment. In the mean time he is telling me that storage is $65 a day!!! It seems like this is what they do, build up a large enough bill to put a mechanic's lean on it. Of course this my opinion which can only be confirmed by looking into the shop's history of mechanic's leans, complaints, etc. But what is not opinion but is a fact is that he IS attempting to extort $170 from me while he refuses to release my $3500 bike back to me. I am the legal and titled owner and there are no mechanic's leans or any other liens of any kind. I have a clear title.Desired Settlement: I want my bike back. I do not want it sitting there accruing charges for storage and whatever else he can conjure up. If he wants to pursue this $170 then he has every right to take me to small claims court where I am absolutely certain he will lose as I have not authorized ANY work, estimates or what have you. I want the bike back immediately. Thank you for your time and efforts.

Response:

At this time, I have not been contacted by Cycle Therapy regarding complaint ID [redacted].

Furthermore, they blackmailed me into saying the complaint was resolved by saying that if I withdrew my complaint I could pay $170 to get my bike released but if I did not withdraw the complaint I would have to pay a bill of about $2,000. Added to this is the fact that they never did what they were supposed to do, open the engine to show the insurance adjuster the internal damage to the starter clutch. I eventually did that myself with the adjuster present. The adjuster then added a supplement to the original claim. This caused a sizable delay in payment for the damage done. Also, the stress and anxiety of having my bike held hostage for over 2 weeks was immense and debilitating. Finally all of this nonsense has meant I haven't been able to fix my bike in a timely fashion, meaning I have not been able to ride it for over 6 weeks.

Sincerely,
