Inferior service. Failure to acknowledge estimated agreement for package size & costs. Items to be packaged were damaged while in stores possession.
Monday 3/5/12: Left items at UPS got estimate on packaging & shipping. Owner quoted $25.00 fee for box:62"x26"x18" including bubblewrap & popcorn & $219.00 to ship. Called UPS 3/6/12 told owner to package items as quoted but would be using other shipping. Was told pkg would be ready on 3/7/12. On 3/8/12 went to pick up package. Items were cramed into 60"x18"x18" box. Owner opened box at my request to view packaging. Packaging was inadequate. Lamp shades were no padded actually touching sides of cardboard box wall. Owners reason for not honoring initial quote was" "I packaged items for freight shipping since you were not shipping with UPS." I did not have large enough cardboard to make your box so I had the box made for $25.00 and I'm not making any money on this box." I informed owner that the packaging was not adequate to survive any method of shipping. I told owner I would retrieve lamps the next day and package myself. 3/9/12 Went to UPS to retriece lamps. The were unpackaged and in view when I arrived. Upon inspection the desk lamp had been scratched and showed large paint loss. The metal rod that holds the lamp had been pushed into the metal base and showed ovious signs of paint cracks resulting. and now the metal rod is slightly bent or leaning and wobbling unstabled. When I showed the owner these problems his response was, "Its and old lamp and I can take it in the back and touch it up on the base. When I asked about the damage to the lamp stand he did not accept responsiblity. These items were to be packaged for a Ebay buyer and now I have damaged items and no recourse re riembursement. They 2 lamps sold in an auction for $550.00. I expressed this to the owner and he just hunched his shoulders totally disregarding the damage that occured while in his posession and again offered only to "touch up the lamp base in the back room". I have made a complaint with the Customer [redacted]@mbe.com for UPS store retail locations.

I will probably have to take this UPS owner to small claims court in order to recoupe damages for my lamps. Because the bottom base on the floor lamp had paint lose as well from items being improperely padded and cramed into a box that was absolutely too small, not the size quoted, for these contents.
