D Brennan Contracting, Inc Reviews (2)

Review: We hired D. Brennan Contracting, Inc. to install a fence in our backyard. There are numerous serious problems with their work that violated not only common sense, but also our signed contract. It is even more troubling that when we informed them of these issues, they were hostile and made factually incorrect statements to us, in an attempt to try to avoid fixing their mistakes. I do not know if they were intentionally trying to be deceitful, but if it weren't for independent fact-checking on our part, we would have been deceived. This is especially troubling, because they could take advantage of other people in the future.

In particular, the installation of the fence contained the following problems:

1. They installed a gate over the property line (on our neighbor's property), even though the contract clearly stated that the fence would be, "installed on the [redacted] property line."

2. To install the gate over the property line, they had to carve out some of the concrete at the base of our neighbor's house, thereby damaging our neighbor's property.

3. Despite charging us for 50 bags of concrete, they did not cement all of the fence posts. In particular, they did not cement a corner gate post by the garage. We have had numerous fencing companies come look at the work, and they all agree that fence posts that are used for a gate and/ or at the corner of a fence should be cemented. This presents a safety hazard as a strong wind might blow over that section of fence.

4. They left a ~2 ft. gap in the fence (the space between our house and the neighbor's), even though we repeatedly told them that we have small dogs and that we needed the fence to contain our dogs.

5. They left a pile of rubbish (e.g. the fence that they removed) on both our property and our neighbor's property.

6. They did not glue the fence caps to the fence posts (all fencing companies have told us this is standard procedure). In addition, one fence post is completely missing a cap.

We informed D. Brennan Contracting about these issues, but they only agreed to address items #5 and #6. Furthermore, they were dismissive of our concerns (making statements like, "As I have said, this is exhausting dealing with inaccurate assessments that derive ridiculous conclusions.") and they made the following factually incorrect statements:

1. They told us that the placement of the gate (which is on our neighbor's property) was not a problem because they installed it, "...exactly where the old gate and fence post were for 30 years," and, "adverse possession & prescriptive easement allow lawful property line encroachment if the encroachment has existed for a period of time (21 years in PA)." However, when we spoke with the neighbors, they told us that the new gate was not actually in the position of the old gate (the old gate was actually entirely on our property).

2. They told us that, "Nothing in or on your neighbors property was altered." However, it is clear from looking at the concrete at the base of our neighbor's house that it was cut into with a saw.

3. They told us that they did not pick up the rubbish because the trash service would pick it up. However, it seems extremely unlikely that any trash services would walk into your property to pick up little bits of concrete and rusty fence.Desired Settlement: D. Brennan Contracting charged $4037.59 to install the fence, of which we have paid them the deposit $1,345.86 (so we still owe them $2,691.73). Given their violation of our signed agreement, shotty work, erroneous statements and hostility to our concerns, we wish to avoid any further contact with them. We would like to keep the remaining $2,691.73 and find another contractor to fix the fence.

If I knew then what I know now, I never would have contracted Brennan Contracting. Dan B[redacted] and his crew are incapable of the doing the job well and practically everything he was responsible for has broken down, leaked, cracked, fallen off or just didn't work! He claims that he stands by his work but when it comes to getting him back to fix and repair his shotty work he is not to be found.

"Excellence is our standard and perfection is our goal" What A joke!!!

Do yourself a favor and avoid this company altogether or you will be kicking yourself later.
