D C Moore & Son, Inc.

My husband and I hired DC Moore to move family heirlooms from the Orlando, FL area to Gt. Barrington, MA., May 2012. They were also moving furniture to Dallas, TX. We were traveling and on our return the valuables had not been delivered. I called and was told we they forgot and the boxes were still in the office but they would send them UPS right away. When we hired them they agreed to carefully wrap and send all the valuables (my in-laws keepsakes, some very valuable from Japan and some from when they were interned during WWII, plus other fragile objects from Germany, etc) When the boxes arrived just about every item was broken. They were wrapped only in moving paper. There was not one set in tact. We took pictures immediately and sent them to DC Moore. They have never settled. I have emails from them asking if they could pay me back on a monthly schedule, which to me means they admit guilt. I agreed to work with them anyway I could but they never came through. Mr. Moore got involved and said he wanted to get an appraisal (just from the pictures of the broken items) and I said I would also get an appraisal. Mr. Moore could not get anyone to give him an appraisal but I had a dealer who specializes in Japanese antiques and has a business in Kyoto, Japan and Massachusetts to come to our home and give us an appraisal. The appraisal was for $2,900 but that did not cover the non Japanese items or the fact that this was my husband's inheritance. What was even worse is that my 95 year old father-in-law saw all his belongings & memories broken as we opened the boxes. He was very upset and suffered mental stress. I offered to settle for $4,500 which is less than the original amount we felt we were entitled. I have given them every chance to do the right thing over the past year and a half. I can get the pictures of all the broken items if needed.
