D. C. Plumbing Reviews (1)

Review: I have used this company since 1999. I had a representative of their company check on an AC problem. I was never given a definitive diagnosis of the exact problem, only that there MAY be a leak in the coil or condenser and here are some options. We could recharge the system with 3 LBS of R22 refrigerant at a cost of $600 and hope that this does the trick. We could add a stop leak for an additional $375.00 "I can't guarantee that it will last 2 weeks or 2 years." I then charged the system, paid the $600 and it did not work. That same afternoon the house was not cooling, clearly this did not work. I figured, my bad at least we tried. However, I decided to seek out a second opinion. Within 10 minutes of his arrival he could see some oil residue, took of the grate, removed the fan, sprayed some soap bubbles and found a leak in the condenser. he would never have advised the Recharge based upon his finding of the leak, and the oil clearly present around the unit. The rep from DC plumbing never took the grate off, never took the fan off and never closely inspected the condenser. Misdiagnosis, in my opinion, led me to believe that the $600 recharge was a viable option with a chance for success.Desired Settlement: I called and attempted to resolve the matter. I spoke with [redacted] on three occasions. I was not satisfied with his response. Only after threatening to file a complaint with the Revdex.com, did I get to speak with an owner. I gave them a chance to resolve the issue with a partial credit of $200.00. I thought that was fair and wanted to also take some partial responsibility. Dave Colbert, owner, did not agree with my assessment, got irate with me over the phone, and ultimately hung up on me. Who does that

RE: Complaint #[redacted]

In response to the above-referenced complaint, Mr. [redacted] was given the diagnosis of the problem as clearly written on the Invoice (see attached). According to our GPS tracking, the technician, Damian Simpson, spent 2.5 hours at Mr. Wain's residence diagnosing and inspecting his outside condenser. Damian fully explained everything to Mr. [redacted] and showed him our book price on the R22. Mr. [redacted] signed the invoice and gave his credit card to Damian for payment.

Instead of contacting us that afternoon when he says, " ... the house was not cooling", Mr. [redacted] took it upon himself to call someone else to get a "second opinion" rather than give us the opportunity to come back out to re-inspect the system. He then states he contacted 3 more a/ c contractors, and again, repeatedly declined our offers to come back out. Mr. [redacted] only demanded we give him a discount.

Mr. [redacted] sent me an email on 6/9/14 threatening to defame me on YELP if I didn't give in to his demand of a credit. I emailed him back on 6/10/14 with the same response noted above and gave him my cell phone number to be reached at. When I kept asking him why he wouldn't allow our technician to come back out to remedy the problem Mr. [redacted] became extremely arrogant; telling me that my employee of 15 years didn't know what he was doing, and spoke to me in a condescending manner all-the-while demanding that I give him a $200 discount.

I have been in business for over 20 years and have never been bullied like I was by Mr. [redacted]. The threat of slander by Mr. [redacted] on my company is his way of getting me to give him a discount. Just because some other licensed (or unlicensed) contractor said he could've done the job for less, does not mean I owe Mr. [redacted] any type of refund.

Sincerely,

Owner

Response:

I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID [redacted], and have determined that this proposed action would not resolve my complaint. For your reference, details of the offer I reviewed appear below.

This response is fraught with error and totally inaccurate. This is now a classic "he says she says." I was never arrogant or demanding, in fact I was professional and courteous the whole time. What Mr. [redacted] does not tell you is that I had spent close to $5,000 with his organization over a 10 year period, during which time I found the service and the workmanship to be satisfactory and the installers to be competent. I seriously think that my request for the $200 refund (not discount) while still paying $400, showed that I was fully aware of my part in this decision and was a seemingly reasonable request in light of all the information. Mr. [redacted] was not involved in any conversation personally until I actually requested a refund. I cant believe that in this day and age (and my history of doing business with DC Plumbing) that he remains unwilling to come to an amicable solution (over $200 measly bucks). For the record, and this can not be disputed, Mr. [redacted] hung up on me when discussing this matter. This is a point of fact. While I believe his installers in the past to be competent and somewhat knowledgeable, I found that this situation was thoroughly misdiagnosed, and this conclusion was later reiterated and confirmed by two subsequent professionals with more experience and customer service skills than Mr. [redacted].
