Was not able to repair car and wanted to perform unncessary repairs.
Over a period of weeks 9/22 - 10/4, I went back and forth from Gravois Auto Repair on Gravois and Tesson Ferry trying to get my car fixed and have their mechanics mistakes fixed. The first incident was 9/22/12 - I went to the Gravois location and asked for oil change, brakes and asked if they could look at the check engine light as it had come on a day or two before. It was determined that I also needed a tune-up. When I got by car back, they did not double-check their work and left the screws loose on the gas line, which then caused my car to die and spew gas from the engine. I had to call a tow truck and have my car returned to the original shop. By the time the tow truck arrived, the shop was closed. I left my keys and a note. I called the next morning 9/23/12 at 6:55 am and was told that no one was there until 8 am. When I explained I was in over the weekend and had my car towed back the night before I was told there are 7 people ahead of me, and I would have to wait my turn. I called by brother-in-law and he called, then called me and said they are looking at it now and will call you when it's fixed. They called and said to pick it up, it's ready. I did not have any other transportation and said I could not pick it up, as I did have a rental over the weekend as I thought my car would be in the shop for a few days, but returned it because they told me my car was repaired. He finally said he would drive my car to my house but I would need to drive him back to the shop, which I did. I asked why the hanging "pipe" on the bottom of the car was not fixed and he said it doesn't matter, those break, and they won't hurt anything. I decided I needed to call the owner as I was sure he would be unhappy with what had happen. I did call him and he said to bring my car back, but do not return it to the Gravois location, but bring it to the Tesson Ferry location. I did and they fixed the hanging pipe and said that the spark plug was not fitting correctly and they would have to order one through the dealer, so they gave me a car to use. I was called to come pick up the car and drove it for a few days until again the car died. I called the owner and he said they would send a tow truck to pick it up. Unfortunately my car was on Hanley by 40 at 2:30 pm in the afternoon and a Richmond Heights cop said it has to be moved now. I could not be pushed anywhere. I had the auto repair owner talk to the cop so he can verify this is true. Again I went back to the auto shop and was given a loaner car until they could fix my car. I got a call and they said it was the full pump and that would cost approximately $600. I had already put in $692.18 on 9/22 and $101.48 on 9/27 for car repairs and decided that I just could not trust them. I decided to have another garage look at the car. When I talked to the owner and told him that is what I was going to do, he said you can have your mechanic come and take a look at my garage, he will tell you it's the fuel pump. I said I want my car back and again he said they are going to tell you it's the fuel pump. I called my insurance and explained the situation and they said I am covered to have a tow truck pick up my car. When I called the Tesson Ferry shop and told them, the girl said that there was a tow ticket on my car and they could not release it (now I find out that they legally cannot do that) but I paid it, $89 and had my car taken to Neeleys. That night the girl called me and said to please return the loaner car tonight. I was not able to return the car till the morning as I only have 1 car. Neeleys repaired my car and I have not had any problems since. It wasn't the fuel pump, it was the timing belt. So I would have paid Gravois an additional $600 + and then perhaps they would have found that it was the timing belt and charge me an additional $600. I am not a rich person, my car is 14 years old.
