D & D Painting Company Reviews (1)

Review: Months ago, we had [redacted] from D & D come to our home to give us an estimate for painting our entire house white with a sealant primer to block smoke smell from the previous owner. When we got the estimate we declined services for time being. About a month ago I contacted [redacted] again via email and asked if he could give an estimate for just painting our house white without odor blocking primer. I offered [redacted] the option of returning to our home to redo the estimate since it has been a while since he last saw our house. [redacted] declined and based his estimate off of the previous paperwork. He told us that it would take 2 to 3 days and $1450 to paint 4 rooms white. Upon arrival, he collected a deposit to pay for materials and left for approximately 2 hours to buy paint and other supplies. On the fourth day of the project with only half of the painting done, [redacted] told us that he would need $500 more because he did not do the estimate correctly and it was taking more time and paint to paint our walls. We did not change the colors of our walls nor was there extensive damage that was not already there when he last saw our home for the original estimate. Considering he saw our walls when he came to pick up the deposit check and go over the contract before signing it, we feel he should have been able to make a more accurate estimate instead of low-balling us a price and then asking for more money to complete the job as promised. When we offered him $200 as opposed to $500, he accepted our offer. When his painters ran out of white wall paint, he told his painters to mix wall and ceiling paint without notifying us. He also did not provide his painters with the proper tools to clean. He left them a limited amount of cleaning fluid and never brought a vacuum to clean dust from Spackle, despite daily proper clean up being part of our contract. As a consequence, we have paint stains on our new carpet and rug as well as bedding and lamp shades. Our furniture was clearly not properly covered nor was our flooring. When we told him via text, email and voicemail that he needed to provide a vacuum and properly clean up or deduct from the amount we owe so that we could hire a cleaning service, none of our concerns were addressed and he proceeded to collect the entire amount owed according to our original contract. He requested to know at the end of the project if our concerns were resolved, my husband answered, "We can move on" because we will never be hiring D & D again.

Response:

Yes We did indeed do work for [redacted] and [redacted]. The original contracted was One Coat of paint same color to freshen up everything. They decided to go with white paint. Every room took 3-4 coats of paint to cover I addressed my concern and told them since we changed the scope of work on the contract I am going to have to ask for more money. The contract stated ONE COAT SAME COLOR in parentheses, we ended up painting 3-4 coats of paint in every room. [redacted] finally agreed to give me an additional $200.00 which didn't even cover my payroll expenses, but I said fine. We did cover all the furniture with plastic and used drop clothes which we always do! [redacted] was upset it took longer then had anticipated of course since we had to do more work. At the end of the job I gave them that extra $200.00 to keep and said we will just do it for the original price of 1,450 as a way to resolve there negative experience which really was because I asked them for more money! Attached is the copy of the contract, Read the scope of work!! Thanks

Response:

I have reviewed the response submitted by the business and have determined that the response does not satisfy or resolve my issues and/or concerns in reference to complaint.

When we first contacted Mr. [redacted] we requested white paint, not same color. When we contacted him the second time by email, we requested white paint again, not same color. This was not a last minute request, and Mr. [redacted] did not bring it up as an issue when we signed the contract (despite the fact that he saw and commented that our kitchen walls were tan). He even asked at the time of the deposit pick up what color we wanted, therefore he clearly did not think we were doing same color, nor saw it as a problem until the house was half painted, and they were 4 days into the job. When we spoke to Mr. [redacted] during the estimate he was aware that our walls were not white, and he asked if we wanted all the rooms painted the same color when he found out we wanted white paint. We advised him yes, and when we saw (same color) we assumed he was talking about using the same color paint throughout the 4 rooms specified in the contract, as he was well aware that our rooms were not white. It is impossible to believe that "Same Color" means Mr. [redacted] was contracted to repaint our walls the pre-existing colors considering that we requested white multiple times, he signed the contract in a room that he was contracted to paint and those walls were tan, and during his walk-through our walls were all green or tan.

He's claiming to have given a discount of 200.00, when in fact, my wife, [redacted], had already advised him (as of Wednesday, September 19th afternoon) that we would not be giving him the extra 200.00 as she had found out that he was trying to make his painters mix wall and ceiling paint without notifying us that he would be using a lesser quality paint on our walls. As such the $200.00 was not a gesture of goodwill, rather it was an offer we rescinded due to the dishonest nature of Mr. [redacted]'s actions.

In addition, contrary to Mr. [redacted]'s claims, adequate covering was rarely used on our furniture and floors. We have attached pictures of paint stains on our carpet, rug, bed sheet and lampshade. The carpet, rug and sheets are all new purchases, and have not been around any painting jobs, so we are certain the stains are a result of D & D Painting's work. Mr. [redacted] declined to show up at the end of the contract to walk through the home himself, and at the time I advised him that there were problems with paint stains, but that I was not interested in continuing to work with his company, and would sign off on the job simply to end the relationship.

We are not looking for any compensation of any sort. We simply feel that D&D Painting did not live up to the Revdex.com endorsement it had received, and wanted to make Revdex.com aware.

Response:

Well I guess at this point it's my word against theirs! The contract is a written legal document that states one coat in every room weather or not they were confused about the color and there was clearly a misunderstanding the point remains One coat in everyroom I signed the contract they signed the contract! That was the agreement! It's clearly stated on the contract! I would have to say we went above an beyond by doing three four coats in everyroom because the coat diden't cover!!! Honestly if I new they where going to write me a bad review I would have just done one coat in everyroom and left it at that! But I'm an honest guy and did the right thing and followed through even after not collecting adiquet money to perform the work we did!!!! If we did such a terrible job why did [redacted] give my employees a 50 tip before they left! I have waisted enough time on this!!!!! I guess you can't please everyone! Some people are just negittive no matter what you do!!!!!
