D & E Auto Care 1, Inc. Reviews (1)

Something was wrong with the clutch in my car. It was hard to get into first gear, the clutch pedal went to the floor, it grinded a little when I tried to get it into reverse, and I had to take out my floor mat to give it room to shift properly. It needed to be fixed, so I called around to find a shop to fix it and was referred to D and E Auto Care by [redacted] on 06/13/13. I made an appointment to drop off the car on 06/17/13. I dropped off the car for a free inspection of the clutch. They called back to say that it needed a new clutch/pressure plate and that it was going to cost approximately $700. I authorized the repair over the phone that day. I picked up the car on 06/19/13 and drove it home, it seemed okay. The next day I drove to a job interview, back home, to a friend's house, to [redacted] and then to [redacted] At [redacted] I couldn't get the car into reverse, it kept grinding. My friend had to push me out of the parking space. I drove my friend home and then I went home. I hadn't even driven it 10 miles and the clutch wasn't working right. I then decided to take it back in to D and E the next day. I took it back in on 06/21/13, they said that it was that the clutch cable was loose and that a new clutch would grind a little until it was broke in. They tightened the clutch cable 3 turns. I then went to pick up my last paycheck. The clutch still felt wrong, it grinded when I tried to put it into reverse and I had to forcibly put it into first gear. I then stopped by D and E on the way home. They said that there was nothing wrong with it. They even drove it around the block to see what I was feeling and still said there was nothing wrong with it. Also, again, they reassured me that a new clutch was supposed to grind until it was broke in, that the pedal was supposed to go to the floor, and that I couldn't put my floor mat back in until it did. All of these problems were the same ones I had come in for in the first place. They looked visibly mad at me for coming back in the second time. They were really nice the first time. Something didn't feel right. When I got home I made an appointment to drop off the car for a free clutch inspection at [redacted] on 06/24/13. As I pulled into [redacted] I smelled something burning, possibly the car. The repair guy at [redacted] drove it and knew there was something wrong immediately. They also did the free inspection and told me that they would have to open it up to see exactly what was wrong but that they thought it was the pressure plate. This cost money I didn't have but I just had a feeling that D and E hadn't done their job right. I went home, they opened it up, and what they found was horrible. They found that the pressure plate had been installed incorrectly, it was high on one side, it was touching the transmission below the starter, that the transmission didn't even have the correct fluid in it(90 weight), and my parts were burnt. They couldn't reuse the parts because they were burnt. I was appalled and very scared because I was scheduled to start a new job on 06/27/13. I needed my car to carry supplies for this new job. I authorized Aamco to replace the parts and start the repairs immediately. The repair was done on 06/26/13. It came to $1200.70. I had to open up a new line of credit to pay for it with a 29.99% interest rate with no interest if paid in 6 months. I am happy to report that after [redacted] fixed it that I have had no problems with it. There is no grinding, it's not hard to get it into first gear, I can put my floor mats back in, and that there is no longer a burning smell. [redacted] really saved me. Now I don't know how I am going to pay for all this. I feel that it was not my fault, that D and E Auto Care was negligent and careless in their repair. I also feel that they did not want to admit that there was anything wrong with it when I brought it in both times and that they possibly knew that there was something wrong but didn't want to waste the time fixing it.I feel that if I would have kept driving it and listened to D and E that there would have been serious damage done to the transmission itself, causing yet another repair. I will never go there again and am telling anyone that will listen about my experience. That is why I am making this complaint so that other people do not get screwed over.
