My boyfriend and I decided to have Mr. [redacted] complete our taxes because he came highly recommended by someone very close to us. We made the initial appointment and went in to have Mr. [redacted] look over our tax documents (both were simple tax returns). At our initial meeting Mr. [redacted] advised he was only going to charge us $50.00 each and that upon completion of our taxes, he would collect the rest, which he stated would not be "that much more". Well, it took a couple of weeks for him to complete our taxes (I received a last minute tax document which I immediately gave to him so mine took a little longer to complete), at which point he told my boyfriend that the remainder of his balance was $120 and mine was $110. This meant we spent $330.00 total for two simple returns!! He gave us no indication that the total would be anywhere near this. When someone tells me it shouldn't "be much more" than the initial $50, I'm thinking he'll charge another $50-60, not an additional $110! Furthermore, we find out after the taxes are completed that he does not e-file. This was never mentioned to us in the inital meeting. Also, [redacted] selected that WE had requested paper filing on the tax return. This was false information because we were never given the option to efile. Lastly, almost two months after the initial meeting, I receive a notice from the IRS stating I was only getting half of my refund. Come to find out on form [redacted] checked a box for a learning credit. Directly next to the box it stated if this box is checked STOP! and proceed to box 31. Well [redacted] decided to check all of the boxes he should have skipped which caused them to flag my return. I spent over 6 hours on the phone with the IRS and finally got the issue resolved, but it will take 4-6 weeks to recieve the rest of my refund. I sent my taxes in the middle of March and won't see the rest of my refund until possible the middle of June.
