I contracted with Del Mar Landscape to tile over my existing back patio. I thought he was going to do the work, but he hired a subcontractor to do the work. The sub he hired didn't know what he was doing and everything was cracking, tiles and grout. The contractor promised he would have another subcontractor remove and retile the patio, but he wanted to do my front patio, so I signed another contract with him to do the front. I thought he was going to redo the back first, but he started on the front and got that finished. Then he was having money issues with the subcontractor, finally they came to an agreement and the subcontractor removed and installed new tiles. The contractor asked me to pay the subcontractor directly, what I still owed on the contract for the front patio. The work was completed on May 23, 2011.On May 31, 2011 I called the contractor and told him the tiles on back patio were cracking. I counted 47 cracked tiles. Finally on Sept 13, 2011 the subcontractor came out to replace the 47 tiles, but by then more had cracked and he counted over 80. Told me the whole thing would have to be redone. I called contractor and told him this, but he refused to pay the difference to have it all redone, was only willing to pay for the 47 tiles to be redone. At last count there were 89 cracked tiles. The company that made the tiles was willing to remake them and the subcontractor was willing to remove and replace the tiles for $1000, but the contractor was only willing to pay $400 to replace the 47 tiles. He was extremely unprofessional as he yelled at me on the phone and as much as told me to pay the difference. Which I don't think I should have to do, he is responsible for the doing the job correctly and it is still not complete.I have filed a complaint with the California State Licensing Board.
