D & T Carpentry Reviews (1)

Review: We hired D&T carpentry to do remodeling work on our home because we saw that they were a licensed/insured contractor. The job was a inside remodeling where weather was not an issue, yet it took the contractor from November-May to "complete" the said work. From beginning to end we countinued to have problems where the work that was being done was not being supervised or verified by the contractor hired-D&T carpentry, LLC...virtually no quality control over the entire project. This is what caused the project to take in excess of what time we were told upon hire-which was 2 weeks. We also had added time to project because we continued finding issues with the quality that we had to have redone. There was a time span of two straight weeks after they had opened my ceiling that no one came to conduct any work, because he stated" he was working on another project that had a deadline"! We had to bring to the owner of D&T Carpentry, LLC that nails were not in studs to hold walls together, that they were about to put a new wood floor over rotten subflooring, had I not realized it myself, they damaged the new flooring we had down with numerous scratches and dents because they did not properly protect new floor once they put it down, Sheetrock was not properly secured to wall( we put up a closet rack and the wall moved), we have a large gap in middle of living room wood flooring where the planks were not connected during installation, columns were not sanded, primed, and painted, nor the doors in bedroom, many personal items were broken, stolen, and damaged with no notification that damage was done by contractor, husband went in attic today, and there is ABSOLUTELY NO INSULATION in ceiling where they conducted the work...so all the money paid to make home energy efficient has literally been going out the window! Another example of how this contractor failed to be on the job properly supervising is the fact that we had a new metal standing seem roof put on prior to hiring D&T, and D&T MANAGED to put a hole through the roof while doing unnecessary cuts to rafters in ceiling, which added more time to work because they then needed to replace all the rafters that were cut. We were displaced for 6-months for a two week job which meant money had to be spend staying with the in laws. Scratched my son's floor up so bad that they had to strip and re-stain the floor, and upon doing the sanding...with a hand held sander, that had no bag to catch the dust, for a medium size bedroom they didn't cover any of the newly installed A/C ducts, electronic devices, etc. which caused excessive dust to be all over the entire house, kitchen, back bedrooms, walls, etc. Additionally, they wasted paint on driveway left it there, wasted stain on driveway, left it there, took the cypress from hour house, used and broke my vacuum, and never said a word! Sent from my iPhoneDesired Settlement: We know that all the damage that was done during this construction, the items taken, destroyed, and poorly constructed/finished work have exceeded the amount of compensation that was offered by contractor.

To whom it may concern:

We

signed and agreed a contract with the [redacted] and they were aware of the process.

They were aware that we had two projects ahead of theirs. We asked the customer

to remove contents from scoop of work area before starting the job. In respond,

they failure to complete this task in which we agreed on in the contact which

were removing the contents from the house in order to proceed with the job. We

have made countless efforts to resolve and satisfy customers’ request. They

gave us a punch list prior to completing the job and final inspection before

final payment. The customer refused to make final payment until after

everything was completed. We have completed extra tasks at no cost to please

customers, but they were difficult customers to work with. They wanted us to

complete several tasks that were not on the contract at no cost. We believed

that after the inspection and final payment was rendered this constituted as a

completed contract, otherwise they would have not rendered final payment. We

have before and after documentation that would prove that this job was completed.

We were caught off guard from this customer to make a complaint over 45 days

later, after making final inspection and payment to do this to us. This was a challenging

project and at this point we don’t how to resolve this complaint.Yours

Sincerely,[redacted]Damier A[redacted], Manager of D&T

Response:

I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID 10658647, and have determined that this proposed action would not resolve my complaint. For your reference, details of the offer I reviewed appear below.

Regards,

We are not satisfied with the response because there was no response to the complaints that we originally stated in the complaint. He stated that we were difficult customers to deal with! We were not,, and have texts messages to prove that-but just say if we were what does that have to do with the work that was done or not done? We knew that he had two jobs prior to us, this was true, but the part that is false is that we did not pay him to start on our house while he was still tied to another customers project, we paid him to secure a slot for next. He gave us the start date, and then told us about how he had to finish the church's project and stop working on ours because they wanted to be in their church by a deadline. I have the text message to prove that we gave him time and was patient and he responded with, "Yes, you have been very patient, and I will make your work a priority". I have attached a picture of the contract that we made-please take notice that the handwriting is of the customers not of the contractor-yes, he made me write the language for the contract. Notice in the picture attached, he stated that we asked for additional work to be done but didn't compensate-the picture clearly shows his handwritten list of additional charges, and you see the check that is in the [redacted]'s name to the left of that. It is because the [redacted]'s wife wanted to ensure that she had documentation of his list given and payment. I also have the personal check from D&T's owner that has not been cashed-that was given to the [redacted]'s for any additional damage that was caused or done to home. The [redacted]'s have not cashed the check because that would be us agreeing that, that was enough compensation for the damage that was caused and all of the unfinished work that wasn't done by this contractor. He states that we conducted a walk through, and he was waiting on us, if you look at the text message attached, you see the [redacted]'s asking him if he was done why was there still everything looking the same way it looked the other day, and then when they meet the next day the contractor is still in the house trying to do work and then proceeds to tell me that he is done get someone else to finish the work. Why did the customer pay, because we know that we had to pay or there could be liens placed on our home, and the longer this contractor was staying in the home-the more damage he was causing because he was mad his workers were messing up, and he was having to stay longer to fix the problems (keep in mind this project was scheduled for 2 weeks...we were out of our house for 6-months). Please refer to picture of son's room as prime example. My son's floor was not to be replaced-it was only to have sheetrock replaced and painted-via the pictures you see the damage they caused to the floor, which then made them have to come and fix the floor, which they decided that they could sand a wooden floor and not put plastic on anything and we walked into a home with saw dust on everything-mind you they used a hand sander with no bag to catch the dust. This went through my entire house and he says that we were unreasonable. I just find the response we received from this contractor in relation to this complaint he said nothing or explained nothing...still don't understand why the insulation wasn't placed in the ceiling of a new constructed room, instead the insulation was outside in the rain, while the contractors company owner told me yes the insulation was in the ceiling. He asked why did we wait, because when my husband went in the ceiling and said there was no insulation placed in the ceiling and that their were "LIVE WIRES" not capped in the ceiling--that was the last straw. We have obtained damaged property, "mysterious disappearance" items, and just 6-months of additional expenses, headache and heartaches with this contractor, when we were told the job would take 2 weeks. I would like for this contractor to explain to all how and why did it take 6-months to complete sheetrocking and painting 3 rooms inside of a home?? Ask him if he was on the [redacted]'s job site observing when they cut a hole in the roof? Ask him why he gave a 100 personal check to the [redacted]'s if he was so proud and knew that he had completed all the work up to "his" standards?? It's easy to blame the customer for being difficult when they are paying for a service they expect the service to be on-time, done with a care factor, and with some type of craftsmanship. We did not get this from the contractor, instead we received excuses and pretty from afar work...waiting on the walls to fall at any moment. Lesson learned if you get this contractor-ensure that you have an licensed inspector review the work as you go along.
