Review: June **, 2013 To Whom It May Concern, Between June ** and October **, 2012, Contractor [redacted] was given $40,000.00 to buy heating, plumbing and electrical supplies and borrowed an additional $20,000.00 from the owner because he couldn’t get credit to begin the project: $7,500.00 Architect fees, $5,100.00 to start the job, $4,500 for a steel beam which was never installed and $5,000.00 to begin the proposed plumbing; all with the expressed intent to be applied to the $52,000.00 bill for the new heating systems. None of these totals include cash that was given to Mr. [redacted] for the installation of an exterior door, removal of trees (incomplete), the destruction of property left by the contractor nor the loss of monies from a rental unit left unfinished. Attached you will find checks written to D&W Construction and [redacted] for “tankless water heaters, plumbing and electrical”. In the middle of the winter October, 2012, [redacted] removed a heating system that supplied heat to all 3 units on the property. He was suppose to replace it with 3 separate units, one for each dwelling. In the third week of November, the Monday before Thanksgiving, [redacted] put in 2 “FURNACES”, missing 6 radiators; no heating (furnace or radiators) were placed in the third unit. When I asked why the heating wasn’t finished being installed in the three units, [redacted] stated that he “put the money into another project”. When I asked [redacted] why he “installed furnaces instead of the tankless water heaters that I asked for”, he replied, “well you didn’t tell me that you didn’t want the furnaces”. To me, in the dead of winter, that constitute bait and switch. I trusted him to install what I paid for, he gave me what was cheaper, what he wanted to give me and I couldn’t argue because we were already three weeks into winter. It snowed the first week of October 2012. On February **, 2013, I fired [redacted] because he wasn’t completing any of the work he started and his actions shown that he had no intentions of completing the work. After receiving the final $15,000.00 in October, all work basically came to a halt when the contractor could not get additional money from me. Between November **, 2012 and February **, 2013, no work was done to complete the heating and plumbing initially paid for. Of the 3 months extended to the contractor to complete the job, a total of twelve days were worked behind empty promises towards completion that never came to fruition. The letter sent to [redacted] / D&W Construction on February **, 2013 instructed him to conduct an in-depth accounting of all monies spent (with receipts for materials) and send the findings to the owner. Up until this date, June 22, 2013. [redacted] has not sent any information. Other contractors contacted want to start from scratch because they say the work is all wrong and needed to be inspected by NYC Housing Authority prior to the closing of any walls. Thank You, [redacted]Desired Settlement: I request a refund of $75,000.00 to cover the replacement of the materials installed, damage left after the installation and materials paid for but not delivered.
