Item was damaged by business but the service woman refuses to accept the damages and pay for the damages
The complainant dropped off a red silk sweater to the dry cleaners facility on 3/24/14. She explained to the woman that the garment had a stain on the bottom/front side which had been caused by water exposure. The rest of the garment was in pristine condition at the time the garment was dropped off.
On 3/27/14 the complainant returned to pick up the sweater and saw that the collar, which had been in perfect condition on 3/24/14 was now damaged. It was a completely different shade of red than the rest of the shirt. The complainant brought this to the attention of the person in charge and was told that the collar had been damaged by the previous water exposure. However, this was not the case because, as stated before, the collar was in perfect condition when it was brought to the facility.
Upon realizing the complainant was not going to accept the damaged item, the woman in charge said she would try to wash the item again and see if it could be fixed.
On 3/30/14, the complainant returned with her granddaughter to check on the item. The store had been closed but the woman in charge was in the parking lot and recognized the complainant. She offered to open the shop and give her the sweater, but said they were unable to remove the stain. When confronted once more with the rationale that the dry cleaners had to cover the cost of the shirt because they had ruined it, the woman in charge went crazy.
She started raising her voice to the complainant and screaming that they could not be held responsible because the item was damaged when they received it. When the complainant saw that her senior citizen grandmother was being verbally abused by the woman in charge, she joined in and told her that there was no reason to be rude. The granddaughter went on to say that they should settle this in a calm manner before things were escalated. The woman said "There is no way in [redacted] we are going to answer for this item. If you want, you can pick up the item and pay us on Monday."
