Review: Business installed gutters June 4th, 2014 but the gutter downspout has been leaking - which has proceeded to leak into my home's basement - ever since installation. Complained immediately to business owner via telephone prompting him to come by my residence to address issue, upon arrival and brief "inspection" of gutter downspout he denied to fix problem. But problem leaks persist despite consistent complaints to business via telephone and e-mail; specifically 6 phone calls and 1 e-mail to date in 2015. Every time I talk to the business owner he claims , "a guy will be out in a couple of [days or weeks as the story varies] to caulk the gutter downspout, you're the first on the list." Alas nobody has come out to my residence to caulk the y-joint on my gutter downspout as contracted and later consistently promised.Desired Settlement: Concerned about water damage to basement and sub-flooring of my home due to the work they failed to complete. Regardless I would like the business I hired to complete the work they were contracted to perform and should have completed in 2014.

D&Z Home Improvement did complete a roof and gutter job at the homeownersproperty. The downspout in question is on that has a "Y" connection that allows two gutters toshare one downspout. In order to achieve this one downspout must be manually cut into themain downspout. There is not a accessory that adapts for this custom modification. Prior todoing this it was explained to the homeowner that caulk is the main thing keeping the jointfrom leaking. The homeowner agreed to this and was aware a problem may develop. This job was completed in early summer of 2014. I did not hear from her until severalmonths later that she was having a problem with her "Y" joint. I responded immediacy to herresidence and visually inspected the downspout. I told her it appeared to be in proper workingorder and re-caulked the joint just to reinforce it. She complained as well that she wanted alonger extension coming away from the house. I went to the supply company that same day, picked up a full 10 foot extension and installed it at her residence.I did not hear from her again until the early spring of 2015. She complained the sameproblem was occurring. Once again I responded to her house and everything appeared to be inproper working order. I explained all this to her and the next time it rains I would come overand determine where and if it was an issue at that point.Eventually she called during a rain storm and 1 responded to her residence. 1'm guessingthis was late spring to early summer. I could not see water specifically coming out of the "Y"joint. Because it was raining out the entire downspout had become wet and water was beadingoff the entire downspout. I told her I could not say for sure if she was having an issue butwould come bade and replace the entjre "V" joint. I told her it may be a couple of weeks andwould do it when I had someone in the area.In addition, I talked to her about her grading of her house. All along the side of herhouse she had small wllite rocks whicll butted up against the driveway. These rocks werebelow the driveway height and appeared to be below the house grade. I explained to her thatwater run off may be coming off the driveway and tile excess rain overwhelming this area maybe the reason for wetness in her basement.A couple of weeks later the entire downspout was removed and replaced. A day or twolater I received a letter from the Revdex.com with this complaint. I have not talked to the homeownersince. At no time did I or anyone refuse respond to her house, or address the issue.Unfortunately I did not keep track of how many phone calls she made to me. She states therewere 6 phone calls made and one email sent. Any time a customer calls I try and respond in ashort period of time. At no time did I or anyone refuse to fix the problem. Review: On June 16, D & Z Home Improvement replaced our roofSince that time, we have had leaking into our laundry room, and possibly in the attic since there are places in upstairs areas that are showing dark areas on the ceiling indicative of wet dry wall or insulationWe have called them back twice to repair the situationThey have returned and looked at the roof, but it has continued to leakWe currently have a call in to them, but they have not returned our call or come to the house.Desired Settlement: We would like the leaking problem correctedThe laundry room will need the ceiling replaced, the light fixture replaced, the bedroom and master bath ceilings will need to be repainted and any insulation that was damaged replacedWe are also concerned about the problem turning into a mold issueWe would also like the areas where the water has been to be checked for mold by an independent agency at D & Z's cost

Recently I recieved a letter from the Revdex.com regarding a complaint from [redacted]The complaint states that Mr[redacted] had work done by our company, to his home June We replaced Mr[redacted]'s roof by removing all old roofing, installing 3'ft of ice and water shield in all valleys and gutter edges, new felt, new gutter apron, new "w" form valleys, new plumbing flashings, new bath vents, new ridge venting, and new dimensional shingles and cap shingles as stated in his proposalWhen the work was completed in 2008, Mr [redacted] was satisfiedPayment was madeI first heard back from Mr [redacted] early summer of He stated to me that he had water coming into his laundry room area through a light fixureI responded shortly after our conversation and assessed the roofMr [redacted] stated that this was the first time he had any problems since we completed his roof 5+ yrs agoHe said that the rain was a hard driving rain blowing directly at the front
of the houseAfter my inspection of the roof in question, I found nothing to be wrongI did clean out a gutter and added a longer piece of gutter apron to a section of the front gutterI stated to Mr [redacted] at that time that I felt the issue might be related to his cedar siding on the front of the homeThe siding showed signs of wearCaulk was cracked, there was no top plate/z-flashing on the top trim board above the window(leak concern) The window trim wasnt installed correctly with the top and bottom piece running the lenth of the windowInstead, the side trimm boards run the length of the window and the top boards fit between(leak concern) There was also bowing in some of the siding boards directly over the area that experienced leaksThe Gaps are big enough for my finger to slide into and one is able to see the wood wall behind the siding(Major leak concern)After my initial response, I did not hear from Mr[redacted] for some time
After several rainfalls later and a winter of heavy snow with melting in the spring, I still did not hear from Mr [redacted] with any concernsOnly after another severe driving rainfall in early did I get a call with the same problemI responded again and looked over the roofAgain, no problems were evident, however none of the above issues with the siding were addressedi caulked a couple areas along the flashing and step tins but felt the issue was a sidding problemI again expressed this to Mr[redacted]Early June of I recieved a third call from Mr [redacted] after a severe rainstormI explained to him that I would get out to his house when I had time being that our season was in full swing with more than longer days of workKeeping in mind that Mr[redacted]s warranty for the orgional roofing was for 3yrs, now yrs since work was completed, I followed up again by stopping out after work a couple weeks laterI inspected the roof again
and saw nothing to lead me to believe the leak was a roofing issueAgain, none of the siding issues were addressedAfter recieving a letter from the Revdex.com on June, 24th, both my partner and I called Mr[redacted] on July 8th to advise him that we again would respond to see if there was anything related to the roofing that would cause a leakMr[redacted] did not answer the phone so I left a message advising of our coming out for the 4th timeMr [redacted] did not call back durring the day, but my partner and I went to the residence to again look at possible problemsWhen we arrived, we noticed that Mr [redacted] had some work done to the siding of the home as I had originally suggestedThere was new caulk around the window, new paint and several areas of the cracked siding were caulkedI took several pictures to document the new workHowever, the window trim was the same and the bowing in the siding was worseThe gaps were now larger and again, my finger could
fit under/behind the boardsMore pictures were taken for documentationI have not heard from Mr [redacted] after leaving a message to call me and our response to his residenceAt this time, I am confident without a doubt that Mr [redacted]'s "leaking" issues are due to poor siding conditionsAfter looking into his laundry room window, no signs of "damage" to the laundry ceiling were obviousWe were not in the home but only observed through the windowOur company has been in business for 10yrs and we have not had any complaints in the pastOur reputation is and will continue to be a top priority for usWe continue to address any issues that may arise with any and all work we have doneAt this point, Mr [redacted] needs to address the siding issue of bulging/warped boards with gaps
