D1 Appliance Repair

Service provider cancelled appointments in the span of 7 days on the day of the appointment. Request for down-payment refund was denied by vendor.
D1 Appliance Repair was originally scheduled on 1/28/13 to provide a service call for a broken refrigerator. On the day of the appointment I received a phone call from [redacted] informing me that his daughter was sick and he was cancelling the appointment. He was rescheduled for Tuesday, 1/29/13. Mr. [redacted]'s assessment was that the refrigerator required a new evaporator motor and he ordered the part upon receiving a down payment in the form of a personal check. He stated that he would return on Friday for installation of the new part. No service contract was ever presented or signed outlining what Mr. [redacted] believes to be implied consent of policy. On Friday 2/1/13, the day of the appointment, Mr. [redacted] called and stated his fiancee was ill and he would not be able to fly back until Sunday. When I asked if he could install the part on Monday, 2/2/13, I was told I would have to wait until Tuesday because he was already booked. After missing work and losing perishable food products without a working refrigerator due to the vendor's personal issues, I called a second contractor to evaluate the refrigerator and estimate a solution. Mr. [redacted] was notified Friday (2/1/13) that I wished to cancel my appointment for 2/5/13 and requested a refund of my payment minus his fee for a service call. I was informed that I could only be offered a "store credit" as this was policy as stated in his bill. Upon contesting that no contracts were signed, nor policies expressed prior to payment, I again requested a cash refund as I did not wish to conduct any further business with D1 Appliance Repair due to my terrible experience. I was again denied.
