There are non-alcoholic [redacted]. However they are very uncommon and we do not carry them in our store. All alcohol in the State of District of Columbia are subject be charged 10% Alcohol tax. The customer came into my premise and purchased some items which total amount of $10.99 before tax. Tax was then added and the customer became confused and upset suggesting was added on a surcharge. explained to her that this was not a surcharge but tax on the item(s) being purchased in which she...

replied - "food should not be taxed". I then pointed out to her that one of the items she was purchasing was not a food item but rather classified as a liquor item and did qualify to be taxed. She then declared that she no longer wanted the item. She withdrew the taxed item and the total then became $7.99. I believe my answer to her was very professional and clear. However, from her initial accusation that was trying to charge a surcharge in a very hostile manner, she did not appear willing to discuss the situation in a productive manner.Sincerely yours,RC C[redacted] Store Manager
