Review: We hired Deily Moving & Storage to store and move our furniture based on a recommendation from George Moving Company since George was not available during the dates we needed. Our belongings were returned to us from Deily dirty, damaged, and broken. We are in the process of working with the Deily claims department to have our items repaired or replaced but they have stopped returning our phone calls. We need to start replacing items so we can furnish our house. If we had any idea of what else is needed from us so we can determine what we can get rid of and what can be replaced, that would be great. Over 75% of the furniture Deily moved/stored was damaged. The value of the damaged furniture is well over $10k (with receipts).Desired Settlement: Deily did not handle our items in a manner that they were contracted to handle them. For example, mattresses were not placed in mattress bags. The claim for all items should be reimbursed at full replaceable value ($10,707.65). Our fee for their service should also be reimbursed ($1,494.23). We expect a settlement of $12,201.88. This will help us replace many items but not everything.

Thank you for the information in regards to this complaint and allowing us the opportunity to respond. I have checked our files and see no move under the name [redacted], however I was able to locate a move under this Bill of Lading number which has a name of [redacted] on the contract. Deily Moving and Storage did a move for [redacted] on 6/26/2013 into our storage and delivered out on August 1, 2013. We did receive a verified statement of claim for loss or damaged goods on August 13, 2013 by USPS tracking number [redacted]. We acknowledged the claim on 08/16/2013. We received a call from Ms. [redacted] on September 4, 2013 which my secretary informed her the claim was in final review and would receive something in the mail within the next ten days. There is a settlement letter and check going out to Ms. [redacted] on September 13,2013. Sincerely, [redacted]

Response:

The move was contracted under my fiances name, [redacted]. Please note the statement of claim for loss or damaged goods had a retail value of over $10,000. The settlement letter and check was for $300. When we contracted this company for our move and storage, we had expected a certain level of service from a company who claims this is their business. Unfortunately, we could have received the same level of service, care, and quality from anyone with a truck - and that would have cost us a lot less. Please keep in mind that not only do we have to replace $10,000 worth of furniture, we also paid this company nearly $1500 for this service. It would have been cheaper and more cost effective for us to leave our furniture at our former residence and buy all new furniture for our new residence because at least then, we would not have been out the $1500. I am requesting a full refund that we paid for this service. In my eyes, the moving/storage company did not earn a penny that we paid them.

Response:

We have investigated this matter and determined the following. Our company completed the customer’s relocation on August 1st, 2013. At that time we believed that this move was complete successfully until we received a request for claim forms following the move. Our paperwork clearly marks to notate any damages to the items at time o f delivery. The men would of reviewed the bill of lading and inventories with the customer and they both clearly ask for the customer to notate any damages. Both forms were singed by the customer and not even a single items was notated as damaged. The forms are included for your informtaion and upon us receiving the claim we were quite surprised. Our company allowed for a claim to be filed and in the intereste of goodwill our company provided the customer with a claims settlement of $300 (check 4834) despite no notations on any o f the paperwork.. The check was cashed on September 16th, 2013 and endorsed to release us o f all claims(See attached). In summary we provided the service o f loading the items on June 26th, 2013, storing them in our warehouse, and finally redelivering the items on August 1st, 2013.. Not even one item was notated as damaged at time of delivery. The customer believes that we do not deserve a single penny for the relocation yet at time o f delivery there was no apparent problem. Furthermore the customer still chose to sign that “ ... all services and articles received in good condition” We believe out company has handled this matter in a professional and timely manner and sincerely apologize that it did not occur with out mishap. We trust that you understand our position in the matter and hope that you find our settlement despite any evidence of any carier mishandling as a gesture of goodwill.
