Review: This complaint is based purely on the business practices of D’Alessandro and Son. On May 28, 2013, I received an estimate from [redacted] about having masonry work done at my home. He quoted me a price ($700.00) for the job which I initially called him about, which was to change 14 bricks and reset any loose soldier bricks on the sill on the front of my house. He then pointed out to me that rest of the bricks on the front of my house needed to be regrouted. I was quoted a price of $1,100.00 for the regrouting. He then told me that if I did the both jobs at one time, he could do the whole job for $1,400.00. I agreed, hired D’Alessandro and Son, and we set a date for the work, Thursday, July **, 2013. They were here promptly at 7 A.M. on July **, 2013 and began work. At approximately 10:15 A.M., [redacted] came to my house very upset. In an agitated, raised voice, he said that his son [redacted] had made a mistake; had miscalculated the size of the job, and it could not be done for the agreed upon price. It was a really a $4000.00 job, and he would need at least $3000.00, or he would have to pull his men off the job! The bricks and a substantial amount of grout had already been removed from my house, plus it was raining lightly at the time. I called [redacted], and he also told me that he had made a mistake. I put him on the phone with his father, they spoke, we settled at $2500.00. I feIt “boxed in”. I did not feel I could leave my house with bricks and grout missing from the outer walls, and start looking for another contractor to finish the job. I had to agree to the new terms. I really didn’t have a choice. The job had to be completed. [redacted] is not proper. We had an agreed upon price, and to threaten to pull your workers off a job after three hours of work if the homeowner doesn’t agree to pay more is wrong. My wife and I had budgeted for the agreed upon contract price. I have to wonder what would have happened if we had not been able meet his demand for an additional $1,100 in cash.Desired Settlement: Honor the original quoted, agreed upon estimate price and not change the job price after work has begun.
