possible for Tuesday, 08/04/2015, He told me his hearing aid "had died" a couple weeks earlier, but he waited to call for an appointment, because he wanted to obtain the replacement at the end of July, because his subscription expired July 31, 2015.I saw the patient on 08/04/2015, because his regular audiologist was on vacation. (I and my husband, Dr. Larry D[redacted], were in Albany during the last week of July caring for an ill granddaughter after her kidney operation. His regular audiologist had many patients scheduled during the last week of July because of our absence.) During the initial phase of his appointment with me 08/04/2015, I reminded him his subscription expired 07/31/2015, which he had known. He immediately became angry and loud, and he stormed out of our office. He then returned a few minutes later to continue to complain loudly, because he was only a few days beyond the expiration date of his subscription. Contrary to the patient's claim, at no time, did I treat him rudely or unprofessionally. In fact, I was concerned regarding my safety because of his initial angry outburst and because of his return to our office a few minutes later to express more anger, after I reminded him his subscription had expired 07/31/2015, which he had known. I have been practicing Audiology in Rochester since 1978, and I do not recall ever having seen apatient behave like this man behaved. Nevertheless, to put this awful incident behind us, I will ask. his regular audiologist to fit him with one more replacement hearing aid even though his subscription has expired. If he wishes to obtain a replacement hearing aid, he may call our office for an appointment. This visit needs to occur by August 31, 2015, so he needs to call to schedule an appointment as soon as possible, He must not wait until the last couple days of August totry to schedule an appointment with his audiologist, so that he will be able to be seen by August 31, 2015.Sheila M.
