Dan the Handyman Reviews (2)

I contacted this business, because I have heard good things about it. But the contractor/employee that I dealt with, [redacted], was not professional in his dealings with me. We e-mailed/texted multiple times to clarify what I needed done and he still didn't get it straight. I never felt like he wanted my business because I always had to contact him, to keep him on task, plus he wasn't going to be at my place the morning that the work was to start to make sure that his worker's were on the same page, as to what I needed done. In the end, he tried blaming me for his screw up and that was the last straw. He never apologized, never admitted his fault and never tried to make it right...and he was not hired for the job.

We had some bathroom work done and I feel we were taken advantage of by him. Work we had done was removal of carpet from a bathroom, one small section of the subfloor was replaced, and one very small sheet rock area on the wall was replaced. New linoleum was put down, some trim and then the new sheet rock was mudded. We were charged $1500 dollars for this. This does not include the new linoleum or sheet rock as we already had that. Only parts that were bought was some very cheap menards trim and the small piece of wood for the subfloor (2X3) otherwise this was all labor. We were charged labor for TWO people when really only one person did the job, slowly, while the other stood in the doorway (as the bathroom is not big enough for both to do anything in there together anyway). I think I saw the second guy run out to the van for a tool maybe twice otherwise he was pretty much just paid to stand there. I feel we were taken advantage of, I had explained I didn't have a ton of money to spend on this but was worried about mold growing with the carpet in the bathroom (seriously, carpet does not belong in a bathroom) and being pregnant at the time was nervous about it affecting baby. He asked what I could spend and I told him I couldn't go over $1500, he then said "that won't be a problem", me thinking great, shouldbe under that by far, nope, magically the bill came to $1475! But now that I have done more work on my home myself and have realized how grossly overcharged I was. Education is expensive no matter how you get it. Please stay away from this guy, especially if you are not knowledgeable on what things actually cost and what work is needed. Now I know that I could have done this work easily myself and paid less than $100.
