We had tornado damage done to our roof and our insurance adjuster inspected the roof and declared that it was totaled. He saw that the last roofer who put on our 30-year shingles didn't put it on properly. The original shingles had algae all over them and our newer shingles were placed over the original shingles without even cleaning off the original shingles causing some of the boards of the roof to rot. The insurance adjuster said that all of the shingles need to be removed and rotted boards need to be replaced before a new roof can be put on. These supposed 30-year shingles that were put on only lasted 10 years before the winds destroyed them, but they were also full of algae just like the shingles they covered up. So, we started to consider getting a metal roof. We also decided we were going to get 3 quotes and choose from there. In order to get the 3 quotes we contacted 14 different roofing companies. Out of those, most either didn't get back to give us a quote at all, or if they did get back with us they did so after a month or so after we already had our roof on. I learned several things through this process. #1-Most roofers absolutely hate metal roofs and would rather not deal with them and the insurance adjuster didn't metal either. #2-The other option was upgrading to wind-resistant, algae-resistant heavy duty shingles. #3-While there are different companies that make these type of shingles, the best quality shingles seem to be made by GAF. #4-GAF only certifies certain roofers trained by them to make sure that their shingles are put on in the best quality manner. #5-The best and most dependable companies appear to be those Accredited by the Revdex.com with an A+ rating. The first of the 3 roofers who gave us a quote showed up on our doorstep before even asking him for a quote. He was not GAF certified, nor has the Revdex.com even heard of him and he only gave us a quote for regular shingles. He also had no website or even a Facebook site and a questionable physical address and an email address he took weeks to answer. He gave us a low quote but my warning red flag antenna went up on him right away. The next quote we received came from a guy who had all of the things we were looking for in a roofer but his quote was thousands of dollars above the insurance adjuster's estimate plus our insurance adjuster locked horns with him and didn't like him at all.

Finally our last quote came from Daniel Hood Roofing Systems. His quote came in at near the insurance adjuster's estimate. He had a website, a Facebook site, an email address, a physical address, and was easy to access both by email, text, or phone. He is Accredited by the Revdex.com with an A+ rating, GAF certified, and has FANTASTIC reviews from Revdex.com, Google, Yelp, etc. I looked through 46 different reviews, all 5 stars, to find that he always did things with the highest quality work, had a crew that thoroughly cleaned up after themselves and was professional in every way. The other thing that was consistently mentioned about him was that he is a truly honest man to deal with (a hard quality to find in someone nowadays). We hired him and they came all the way from Knoxville to Crossville to do our roof in a timely and professional manner. He did not only our home's roof, but also the roof of our shed out back and it all looks absolutely beautiful. He is all the things that were positively said about him, and then some. I was so afraid to trust someone after having been ripped off from the last folks who did our roof. You can trust Daniel to not only do the job, but to do it right. You positively can't go wrong with Daniel Hood Roofing Systems. 5 stars all the way!

A downpayment was put on work that the company will now not schedule to complete this job. Work that was done was incorrect and needs completion.
Daniel Hood roofing is the sole recommended contractor for *** in ***. The owner Daniel Hood acknowledged by phone that the salesperson made some mistakes in assessing the job that needed to be completed and said they would make it right. As of now, a downpayment was put on work that the company will now not schedule to complete this job. This has to do with fixing water damaged drywall and modifying the frames around the skylights so that the windows can be cleaned. Hood's company also made a mistake in installing one of the solar shades that needs fixing; right now it is askew and doesn't close properly. We were also upset that that Hood's company completed the work on our home on a day when we didn't authorize work and demanded payment right away, saying that such payment would allow "warranty work" on the failed solar shade installation.

Desired Outcome

Schedule and then finish the job properly. Do what you claimed you would do when you requested immediate payment.

The work is currently scheduled for ***. We offered the Mr. a refund on the second job after the first was completed but Mr. asked us to complete the second and even offered to pay more because the scope of work had changed. We did not charge additional and we honored our proposals.

The skylights were inspected by the *** representative in our area and he has confirmed the our skylights have been installed correctly.

The second job was completed to my satisfaction this past week, and I expect that *** will fix the problem with the first installation job based upon recent conversations. I appreciate that Daniel Hood decided to see that the jobs are completed.

Utmost in customer care . Insurance co wanted to patch my roof where a tree fell through it but Daniel stood by my side and would not let this happen.The shingles over half the roof were damaged and we kept fighting. Clean up was immaculate and the roof is as beautiful as a roof can be. I recommend Daniel and his team to anyone who wants the job done right. He knows the right way to do it . He is not one of these fly by night roofing band of rogues.

We were under a very tight time frame to inspect the roof on home we wanted to purchase, Daniel Hood stepped in and provide a professional comprehensive inspection with a written report. Have been tempting to resolve an issue on a new roof installation since ***. Still not getting them to come and make the job right.
Roof was installed *** ,in *** had sections come loose,found screws not installed . *** Noticed leak in attic. Have made numerous texts and phone calls to both company contacts and owner, since the beginning . Lots of promises and no one has taken care of problem.

I am sorry Mr. feels this way. We strive to help every customer and take care of issues as soon as they arise.

Once this issue was known, we have now made 7 trips to his property. We have inspected and found the roof is not currently leaking and we had this information verified by a third party contractor in Knoxville, TN.

We did find issues with the roof that we did want to fix to make sure they do not cause issues in the future.

We have complied a materials list and sent it to the manufacturer to price and give us a delivery date.

This information has been communicated consistently throughout the process with Mr. and our last email was dated one day before this compliant was filed.

I do appreciate your patience in getting this resolved but, due to the tariffs on steel, the process of getting metal roofing materials in has quadrupled in lead time.

In response to Mr. answers to my complaint.I have called the company 24 times,from ***. Have received response back 8 times. During the same time exchanged Text 5 times. Last from Mr. contacted me ***. I have never received an e mail after giving address twice. Visit from third party *** , the man checked exterior , never went in attic to check leak , made list of material would hurry the order along. ***, a crew looked at problems looked in attic and agreed it was leaking,said they were working in the area and would try to work here at same time, never showed. *** another crew showed up looked at outside made another list,checking on material and have never heard anything. So I am filling this complaint because I have to call and they do not keep in contact with me unless I call. I have been more then patient and if other material is getting through why is it,mine has not come in since ***.

There is no doubt there is/was communication problems on this project. I have relieved 4 people of their duties because of this job alone. That is why I gave Mr. my personal phone number to call/text day or night if he needed additional information as I have taken control of this project.

Our last correspondence was on *** and I advised I was in training and wouldn't be able to take a phone call. I advised that I would have an update for him on *** about the time line of the project.

I sent an email on *** at 8:07 to advise the quotes had come back and that we have purchased the materials (this information can be provided if the customer wants to see this information).

Due to tariffs, the process of ordering metal has completely changed. Our prices change weekly and our lead times change hourly. I would give anything to give an exact date so that this issue could be resolved, but I cannot.

The only way to to speed this process up would be to sacrifice the quality of the project and I will not do that. This six months of headache will be a small amount of trouble when that roof last a lifetime.

Again, my company and myself have made mistakes. We are not perfect but we strive to be perfect. The difference between us and other companies: we will fix the problem. Period. That is on my name and reputation.

Lastly, Mr.: I value your opinion and you've helped us grow our company. This project will be completed on the first date that it possibly can.

Daniel is one of the best in the business. Extremely knowledgeable about roofing systems and cares about quality. There are several companies that can just put on a roof... but if you care about the whole roofing system, look, but most importantly - protecting the investment of your home - then Daniel is your guy!
