Dan's Tree Service Inc Reviews (3)

By far the best tree service I've ever used.
We have a wooded acre and having tree work done, in one form or another, is an annual event.
I won't even consider using another service as Dan's Tree Service is, hands down, the only cost effective, truly reliable choice I have.
His crew is fast, he is very reasonably priced and they are CLEAN. His attention to detail and they way he left my property added even more value to an already good deal.
I cannot recommend Dan's Tree Service highly enough.

Re:  Complaint IDN [redacted]   Dear Ms. Harris:   Having been in business for many years, I understand what my clients expect and deserve.  Knowledge, customer service, quality and dependability … added in with an “I care attitude” is what I always strive for.  And I always...

go above and beyond on every job, including the job done for Dennis & Janis [redacted].   There are many details involved in this situation and I will try to keep this initial reply, providing only pertinent facts because I feel strongly that these facts will clearly amplify no wrong-doing in any way by my business performance and/or acumen.   Facts:   Whenever I do plantings, my watering instructions are EMPHASIZED and EXLICIT (I am insanely anal on this issue); and furthermore, if followed, even in drought conditions the plantings can thrive and grow in a healthy manner accordingly.  Watering schedule provided to ALL planting customers, and provided to the [redacted]’s in May when I did their job:     Thoroughly saturate plantings every other day for first week Then every third day for 2nd week Then keep them watered throughout the season (adjust schedule accordingly through rain and heat) AND once you get into July and August you are going to have to increase the frequency of watering by going back to original schedule of thoroughly saturating every 2-3 days appropriately per weather conditions.   All my plantings are installed with peat moss, topsoil manure and slow release fertilizer and then topping with mulch.  This promotes a healthy growing environment.   I have done dozens of planting jobs in my years of service…to which I can provide names, testimonials and/or pictures if necessary.  These plantings (except for the [redacted]’s) are alive, healthy and in beautiful shape, even considering the high temperature this past July into August thus far along with little to no rain.  There have been absolutely no other complaints, death of plantings and/or issues of any kind (i.e., if I did conduct my business in a manner as the [redacted]’s say I have, you would think there would be other problems!). Best immediate example:  The [redacted]’s were referred to me by a customer I did a job for 2 weeks prior to the [redacted]’s job.  I planted the same arborvitaes as done at the [redacted]’s.  Upon receipt of your complaint notification (8/18/16), the same day I stopped by that client who referred the [redacted]’s.  Their Arborvitaes were absolutely beautiful and thriving (see attached picture taken 8/18/16).  Their line of Arborvitaes are also on a varying grade which can be seen in the picture.  The following is what I accomplished with this visit:   §  Client was happy to see me and shook my hand §  I asked if they were satisfied with the work we performed for them.  Client answered “I am absolutely satisfied”. §  I asked would you ever use us again.  Client answered “yes definately”. §  I inquired if I could look at his arbs that we planted for him.  Client answered “yes, come on in the back yard”. §  I told him his plants look very healthy.  He replied “yes they are doing great” and he immediately stated “I’ve been following your watering schedule”.      !!! §  I told him I have a dissatisfied customer – I did not tell him who.  I asked to take a picture and he said “not a problem” (again, see picture attached). §  He kept commenting how great everything looks and how satisfied he is!!!   When anyone calls to say plant(s) are not doing well my first & immediate question is “how often are you watering”? Industry standard of planting guarantee is to cover integrity of plant.  It does not include wrong-doing and/or negligence of any kind on customer’s part.       Facts of what transpired with the [redacted]’s:   Dennis left a voice message very end of July communicating that 1 Arborvitae was doing bad and several others were not looking good.  I immediately called him back and asked how often are you watering Dennis?  He replied once a week.   I knew immediately the damage was done due to improper watering and the high temperatures during July.  Dennis did not follow my instructions provided in May, that once into July and August to go back to initial watering schedule due to higher temperatures, lack of rain, i.e., weather conditions.  I communicated this explicitly with Dennis again during this phone conversation.   Note since January 1st, precipitation is down 8.16 inches.  We have also experienced above average temperatures in July.     However, plants can be resilient, and I knew it was worth a shot – so I told Dennis he should start watering aggressively – following my instructions provided in May.  I told Dennis I would then be out to take a look.   Dennis called again within a week after he was supposed to be aggressively watering, to say they were not getting any better (our records show this 2nd round of calls was on Saturday 8/6/16 – I was on a landscaping job site, but did take time to call Dennis back, letting him know I would stop by the next day).  I did visit the [redacted]’s the next day, Sunday 8/7.  Nobody was outside and I immediately went to the plantings to look at the root systems (choosing 1 in back and 1 in front):   Backyard line of Arborvitaes were absolutely fine and looked beautiful and healthy.  The root system on one in back I checked showed it was thick and white which determined they were getting sufficient water.  Note the entire line of arbs in backyard was at a lower grade and slopes which retains water - so even if they were not being watered every other day as instructed (remember Dennis indicated end of July he was only watering once a week) - the water retention due to the sloped grade allowed them to thrive and survive.   Front yard line of Arborvitaes were all bad.  The root system on the one in front I checked was dried up and brittle which determined they were not getting sufficient water.  Entire line of arbs in front yard are on a higher grade, sloping downward/away so the water drains off quicker.  Yes, this slope is very noticeable to the common eye.  However, the slope has nothing to do with why they did not survive.  Note if watering was done as instructed, even with the slope and drainage and near drought conditions, plants could and should have thrived and survived, i.e., there would have been no different instructions then what was provided to the [redacted]’s, and any other planting client.   Again, Industry standard “Guarantee” does not include plant deterioration and/or death due to lack of proper watering.  Dennis knew and understood this (Industry standard of planting guarantee is to cover integrity of plant, not negligence or wrong-doing of customer).  And this was communicated to him several times (initially when job was done in May, again during first phone call end of July when he said he was only watering once a week instead of what I instructed him to do communicated in May, and again when I stopped by on 8/7 (he and his wife came out while I was inspecting the root systems).     Bottom line these dead/dying plants did not show any signs whatsoever of any condition(s) that would warrant “guarantee” for replacement.  Their claim for me to reimburse them the entire cost of doing the job, for a portion of the plants that were not watered correctly is not valid.   As always, I was professional, polite, informative and explicitly clear with them from the start to the finish.  There was no negligence on my part in any way.   As I have never been involved with a complaint of this nature, I do not know how this is handled on your end.  I welcome any questions you may have and sincerely would appreciate full and total communication with me in this issue’s resolution.   Respectfully,   Dan [redacted], Owner Dan’s Tree Service, Inc.

Revdex.com:
I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID [redacted], and have determined that this does not resolve my complaint.  For your reference, details of the offer I reviewed appear below.
All of the 12 trees were watered the same. The watering instructions were followed. The trees started to turn brown the second week of July, the tree were to have been guaranteed during the first growing season as I was told when I purchased them. If the trees were watered incorrectly, they all would have turned brown, not just 5 of the 12.
Regards,
Dennis [redacted]
