Complaint: [redacted]I am rejecting this response because:
Thank you for sending my response to the shop. I decided instead of me getting another catalytic convertor replaced from Darrells muffler shop, I would rather at this point, have the costs of the software update I personally paid for at the Honda dealership reimbursed back to me. Darells muffler shop had previously admitted in a response to my complaint filed against them, that they would be willing to pay for the required software update that my car needed at the Honda dealership in order to get rid of my reappearing catalytic covertor diagnostics code. Therefore I feel that I'm entitled to be reimbursed for the full amount of $133.00 which is the total  price I paid for the ECM software update at the Honda dealership. I have a receipt to provide as proof, along with the outcome of the complete evaluation performed by the Honda dealership technicians clarifying that my catalytic convertor needs to be replaced yet again. Although, it has only been 6 months since I got my new catalytic convertor from Darells muffler shop. I feel that Darells mufflers does not have the appropiate diagnotics equipment needed to physically test the function of my catalytic convertor. I would rather pay for a new factory oem convertor and have it installed properly by the Honda dealership technicians than have Darells muffler shop do more work on my car. The Honda dealership is a reputable certified shop with technicians that can run catalytic convertor diagnostics omissions tests and confirm results, in order to ensure the proper functionality of the catalytic converter. I'm only requesting to be paid back from Darrells Muffler shop the amount of $133 for the ECM diagnostics software update my car needed after the catalytic convertor was replaced by Darrells mufflers. I'll be happy to pick up my form of payment directly from their shop via check or cash, as needed. After which, this topic will be closed for discussion with me.
Thank you,

Hello, I previously opened a complaint against darells muffler shop regarding the faulty replacement of my catalytic convertor. The claim left off with them responding to my inquiry but because I didn't provide a response back within a week, the claim was closed. I find it imperative to have the claim re-opened again to I can have my proof on file.I went to have my car evaluated by the Honda dealership and they insisted their findings indicate that the catalytic convertor needs to be replaced again. Darells muffler shop put on an after market catalytic convertor that did not work with my car. I had the ECM software update done at the Honda dealership to reset my omission controlls, but like the Honda technicians advised me when I got the software update, the P0420 code came back on yet again. Though I had a new catalytic convertor installed on my car 6 months ago by Darells Muffler shop. I'm needing to have that same converter replaced yet again for a second time. Darells Muffler shop needs to put on a factory oem convertor that will work with my car not an aftermarket convertor. When I originally had the convertor replaced the first time by Darells Muffler shop, there was no indication advised to me by them, as to which type of part was being installed, oem replacememt or aftermarket replacement. Please re-open my claim, the muffler shop offered to replace my convertor, which they should since their service has a 2 year warranty. However, I would like to get it on record. My only concern is that Darells Muffler shop is only a muffler shop, they do not have any diagnostic tools that the Honda dealership uses to verify that my car will accept the new catalytic convertor and not lead to my P0420 code to come back on again. So this issue is still a problem for me that has not been resolved.Thank You,[redacted]

Darrel's Muffler has repayed me in the amount of 133.00 for having to get my computer (ECM) reflashed at the Honda dealer.
I am satisfied with this and the way he handled it in a good business manner.

Darrel's Economy Muffler. [redacted] Portland, OR 97266The issue that [redacted] came in for was the catalytic converter, P420. Which means the catalytic convert is worn out. A tell tell sign of a converter going out can be one of three things. One,...

with cars 96 and newer are monitored by the Oxygen sensors that will give you the code of P420. This means all the chemicals in the Ceramic brick are washed out and needs to be replaced. The other thing that they can do is melt down that causes the car not being able to run or the ceramic brick can break lose and raddle around, and with those last two problems we normally see that with a car that is older than 96 because they are not monitored by oxygen sensor, There is no other way of testing the part besides what the computer in the car is telling me or one of the other two issues, So after scanning the car and getting the codes out of the ECU/Computer we told her what was wrong. One of the codes we could address and fix for Ms. [redacted], But the other code in Her Car was a P2138 (Accelerated pedal Position sensor). Witch could cause her other problems in her car. But we have told her that she needs to go see a mechanic to address the other problem and fix it right away. [redacted] told us With that year car has to go back to the dealer to get the code erased. This is why we sent her to a mechanic, because it is very rare that a car has to go back to the dealer to get the codes cleared. We are limited to doing other mechanical issues cause we do Strictly Exhaust, if there are other issues we can't fix, we give our customers a list of mechanics to go to if they do not have one. The fact is that Ms. [redacted] has more than one problem, so we addressed the Converter problem. Anything outside of the exhaust mechanically we do not do, which is very clear, and to help Ms. [redacted] out we offered to pay for the re-flash of her computer/ECU and to come back in to double check the converter. With our Company we stand behind all the work we do and have no Problem warranting any of the parts that we install, unless the car clearly has a run ability problem to make the part go bad. So that being said, we do not have problem helping Ms. [redacted] out. But we are not responsible for other mechanical error outside of the exhaust. We did tell her that she has other issues with her car. And if she has any other problems to come back in so we can scan the car and see whaf s going on.Darrel's Economy Muffler.Sing by Chris H[redacted]. 08/12/2015
