Daves Marine charged me for work that was not done. I still have a boat that doesn't run after amost $800 later.I took my boat there 2 months ago bc it was running hot and running rough. They charged me the 127 diagnostic fee to figure out the problem, 4 weeks later they finally told me it was the impeller and it was going to cost I think around 400 to replace it, which they already did without asking me. I picked up the boat and they told me if it was still running rough that I could bring it back. I took it out on the water the next day and it was still running rough and kept cutting off on me. I brought it back to them and they said they would look into it, but first it was going to cost me another 127 just to diagnose it, which I told them I refuse to pay that since the boat wasnt fixed and I paid the 127 diagnostic fee already when I first dropped it off. they ended up saying fine and let me leave it and said they would try and diagnose it by the end of the week. well 4 weeks later they finally call me back and tell me that the distributor cap and ignition coil needed to be replaced which would be almost 700 which I told them dont work on it ill just pick it up and do the work myself. well the guy that always answers the phone tells me its going to be 380 for me to pick it up. I told him thats outrageous since all they did was diagnose the problem which I ready paid for the first time. He started yelling at me on the phone saying that they wont let me leave with the boat until I paid 380 for it. they did no work on it, all they did was tell me what the problem is. this place is all about some fraud, other people have had similar problems.Desired SettlementI would like a refund of the 380 that I had to pay to pick up my boat. I paid to have the boat fixed 2 months ago and it still isn't fixed and still has the same problems beside the impeller.Business Response Mr. [redacted] originally paid for an impeller job and adjustment to his carburetors which he installed improperly and had rebuilt by another service shop. Mr. [redacted] refused to pay for the work required to bring the boat to running condition. Mr. [redacted] has been attempting to perform his own work and has had other mechanic's do work as well as installing improper parts on his engine himself. He was quoted the price to get a correct diagnosis and a second price to bring the boat to running condition. He refused to pay for anything until threatened with legal action for the cost of the diagnosis which he asked for. There is nothing more we can or will do for him. Mr. [redacted] to us and we have documented that he installed an improper racing coil on his engine which is illegal for that motor. If anyone is attempting to commit fraud it is Mr. [redacted] who thought that he could act like a bully and get his diagnosis on the work he performed wrong for free.Mr [redacted] we would be happy to see you in court and counter-sue you for libel and defamation. We'll be waiting.Consumer Response I dropped the boat off for 2 reasons the first time. I said it would sometimes run warm and also wanted to cut off on me. You claimed after replacing the impeller that would fix it from cutting off on me. You said if it continues to cut off to bring it back so you can take another look. I brought it back to you for the original problem and you wanted to charg me another diagnostic fee. After you actually looked into why it was cutting off, you charged me 380 for diagnosing the problem. NOT FIXING IT!! Also, you were suppose to call me before any type of work that was going to be done on it, which when you called you said you already invested 4 hours. The only Bully is Daves Marine for doing some work but not all of it and wanting to charge me for another diagnostic fee. You said I brought the boat to other mechanics, that's incorrect, the only mechanic that did anything was the carb specialist.Final Consumer Response Go back and look at the invoice when I dropped it off the first time that shows all the work that was done. It wasn't done after I picked up the boat. And go back and look at the first invoice where it says running rough, cutting off. After I picked the boat up, it was still running rough and cutting off when you told me to go test it out and bring it back if it was still doing the same thing. I still have the invoices to prove that it says running rough, cutting off. And speaking of immature your the one that was yelling at me like a little school on the phone when I was trying to figure out what the 4 hrs of labor was for (Which was recorded) Which also when I spoke to [redacted] the mechanic he told me that you guys are suppose to call back the customer before any work has been done to give the estimate, you did 4 hrs of work without calling me!!Final Business Response We are done. It is illegal to record phone conversations in the State of North Carolina without prior knowledge of and consent by both parties.It is a misdemeanor crime. The installation of the coil is also a crime. Online slander, libel and defamation is also a crime. You installed the coil that caused the problem. We addressed the running issue with an impeller. You were made aware of the disconnected hoses, wires, cables etc. from your carburetor work, you performed. You were told we needed a diagnostic fee charge to address your current issue which you refused to pay, yelling at me to my face. You got loud on the telephone with me and your brother threatened me on the phone in a follow-up conversation.At this point we feel this has become a criminal matter. Contact us again and I will file charges against you and your brother.
