[redacted] calls mid day Janurary 22, 2016, , hours before a winter storm approaches. and tells me he needs a basic service and a spring came off and unit would not start. He brings unit in and asked if it can be done before the snow storm. I said we will do our best. I did...
not give him a firm estimate as I never do because I dont know exact problem at the time. I would have not told him $50.00 because the basic service is $68.00 itself.I took it into the shop right away. My mechanic began working on it within an hour. First thing we did was to remove the carburetor and soak it in solution. We cleaned it and replaced the needle and seat. We reinstalled carburetor and the unit started and ran fine. Then we noticed that a spring was off of the auger cable located on the bottom of the unit. We reattached spring and tested it and it worked That is all we did and I have it written on the work order that way. I called this customer and told him his unit was done. All this within 4 hours. (we worked on other snow blowers in between)Our policy is that we warranty our work for 30 days . If the problem is related to the work we did. On Sunday, day after storm stopped, he calls and says that the spring came off. He wanted me to. come out and put it back on but due to 30 inches of snow I told him I could not do that I asked him to bring it back in when roads are clear and he said " I have COPD and cannot" Although he brought it here with no problem, I told him that the spring may have has lost tensel strength and it needs replaced. I also said It is impossible for us to know that at the time. As I said we tested it and it worked. He called today 25 Jan. and asked if I was going o fix unit and I said yes. lI explained to him that I would replace the spring but I have to charge for the spring , which was about $2.50, but would not charge labor. He got pissed and said he was not paying for anything as it was a warranty issue. I told him that I would not fix it then and he hung up on me. Then he called back and said he was gong to file a complaint to which I said do what you have to do.I cannot and will not supply a part, unless we break it, for free. .His bill was $123.79. $68.00, flat labor fee, for the basic service, 34.00 for removing, cleaning and replacing carburetor and adjusting it. $14.78 for parts and oil and fluids and disposal. On a side note, he should not have waited until he last minute to see if his snow blower worked. My shop bent over backwards to accommadate him so he could have it back before the stormDo what you deem necessary. But he is not getting his money back nor will I repair his snow blower. Awaiting for your reply. SincerelyDavid R[redacted], OwnerA & D Reisman Mower Repair Shop.
