I hired David S. Campbell to build a fence, and fix my back deck, so it met city codes. We started the deck in 2014. I did not hire anyone. My ex fiance built it, but our relationship ended before the deck was complete, and he moved back to Alabama. David said he would be glad to build a fence and make the deck meet the City of [redacted] codes. David and I met with the inspector for the city ([redacted]) to go over everything that needed to be done to the deck. On 11/01/15 I gave David a check in the amount of $1,852.30 (#1206). $1,400 was for the down payment on the fence, and the remaining $452.30 was for the materials he said he purchased that morning from [redacted] to complete the deck. I asked for a receipt, he said he forgot it but would bring it by. I have repeatedly asked for the receipt over the past six months and have yet to receive it. He however, did have a guy come by one day and placed new footings on the deck. The check I wrote him on 11/21/15 for $350.00 (#[redacted]) was to cover the labor on the deck. The labor included making it up to code, and staining it. He said he needed the paymet up front to pay his employees that were going to the work on the deck. I trusted him and gave him the money upfront, and nothing has been done to the deck. He did come by one day with another guy and set most of the fence post, all but two. He came by on 12/08/15 and said he needed $500 to give Dutchway to pay off the fence so they could cut the panels. I said I wasn't comfortable giving him more money when nothing has been done, at this point it's been over a month. The fence was suppose to be completed by the second week in November. He assured me once again this was the last payment. On 12/08/15 I gave him the $500 check. By the first week in January nothing has yet to be done. David blamed everything on Dutchway. I took it upon myself and called Dutchway. I spoke with [redacted] and found out he has not given them any money towards the fence. He has not even paid for the posts in my yard. [redacted] said they did come out anad take measurements and were ready to cut the fence. [redacted] said they told David they were not cutting the fence until he paid for the posts along with a couple thousand dollars he owes them from a previous job. I spoke with the book keeper, Linda, and she emailed me a letter with my invoice number. It stated that they have received no money for my job. I emailed over a copy of this letter to Revdex.com on 05/10/16. There was no additional work that needed to be done to the deck that he was not aware of from the beginning. We both met with [redacted] and he wrote down a list of everything that needed to be done. David agreed to it, and to complete it at the price of $350.00. There was no additional work that came up after that. I have a paper from [redacted] listing everything that needs to be done, that was agreed upon. David also has a copy of this paper. I will be faxing it over firt thing in the morning.

Review: I Hired David Campbell to build a fence around my yard and to finish my back deck so it meets city codes. I have written him three checks. One for $1.852.30 the down payment on the fence and the materials he said bought from [redacted] to finish the deck. Another for $350.00 for the work on the deck, which wasn't and still has not been done. And another one for $500.00 for the rest of the money he claims Dutchway in Stuarts Draft Va needed to finish cutting/making the boards for the fence. The fence and deck were suppose to be done by the second week in November. All I have are fence posts, which two aren't even set. He never paid Dutchway for the posts that are in my yard., nor gave them any of my money that he claimed they needed. I have [redacted] messages for the last months with him saying he'll give me my money back, until he blocked me from his phone and [redacted]. So I have no other chance or hope of me getting my work done or money back. I have pictures of the checks he cashed, and pages of promises of coming to do the work or coming to give me back my money.Desired Settlement: I just want my money back that I paid him, so hopefully I can get the fence and deck finished. He didn't use any of my money on anything to do with the job. Didn't pay Dutchway for the posts in the yard or for the fence to be finished. Didn't buy any materials from [redacted] for the deck.. I gave him almost $3,000, emptied out my savings account. And nothing has gotten done.

Review: David Campbell Construction did a renovation of our kitchen in September of 2013, replaced the counter top with granite countertop.

We notice a crack on the countertop next to the sink and reported this to David. He had his subcontractor to fix the problem and all they did was to buff it. The crack was visible after the buffing. We attempted (emails and telephone calls) to have David look at the problem; his response was always that he will come by but never showed up. He did not respond to my last email.

Now after almost two years, the crack on the counter is larger and a piece of it is seperating from the counter.

We have decided to take him to Small Claims Court.
